    Stinky wee

DS 17 months has very stinky wee. i don't think he is taking in as much breastmilk, but still drinks fair bit of water. he has had a cold/chest infection?

is it just trying to get more fluids in, or is there something i am missing?

It could be because he has been unwell. Certain foods can make for stinky wee too. If he's drinking enough water he should be fine. No signs of an infection?

If the nappies are wet/full as usual, I'd consider a certain food (asparagus has a reputation for this, for example), or maybe teething? Could be the cold, I know swallowing mucous changed my kids' #2’s whenever they were sick. Medicine can change the smell too. I guess I wouldn't worry too much if I was pretty happy with the amount he was drinking. But you know, usual disclaim, I can be too relaxed about these things so if it really seemed unhealthy I guess you could mention it to a GP or MCHN or something. Hope the cold clears up soon, it can really annoy them hey.

Any chance it could be teething? Not necessarily coming through, but moving around. Always seems to make my ds have very strong, acidic wee.

Both of mine tend to get very stinky wee, DD2 in particular, when they are dealing with colds or infection. So if he has/had a chest cold, then I would put it down to that. I just change her nappy more often and make sure I wipe her really well to avoid the nappy rash.

i didn't think about infection, but i probably would have if it was a girl. He doesn't seem in pain when he wees at all.

He hasn't had meds, and he seems happy enough this morning. it could be teeth moving again, or maybe just the cold. it is a bit wrong though!

Has your DS had a temperature with the cold? Because kids have a greater surface area to volume ratio than adults, they become dehydrated faster than an adult, particularly when febrile. If all else seems well, I would just encourage water/BF's and plenty of rest. Hope he feels better soon.
