Hi, I am interested to hear from families who have used the service in footscray, especially for the residential stay. I would love to hear the good and bad and if you felt it worked. How old your child was.
Thanks
I haven't used that particular service, but another residential service in the ACT. I would say its usefulness probably depends on what your situation is (ie the reasons you feel you need the service) and what other things you've tried. For us, we had consistently implemented pretty much every strategy out there (including no cry methods) for the better part of 6 months and DD's sleep was getting worse, not better, and I was in severe non-coping sleep deprivation, so the residential stay was an absolute godsend for our family. Other people who were there at the same time were there for less-strong motivations (like getting their children to eat vegetables ), and they didn't seem to think they got as much benefit from it.
I can't remember how old DD was when I took her there for the residential stay. To put it nicely, she would scream literally all day due to severe reflux, constant vomitting, etc, and it was suggested this might help. No idea how. But we only lasted a couple of days for a combination of reasons, from what I felt was not a safe sleeping environment for her (i could put my fist between the mattress and the cot, and I was not allowed to change cots, make that one safe for my satisfaction with blankets, or let her sleep in her very large pram which laid flat), unrealistic expections of controlled crying (i had tried it all before), to the lack of food, especially for nursing mums. The boss and I just about came nose to nose over the cot. So, if you're asking me, no, I wouldn't recommend it.
