    Ganglion cyst?

I have this big lump on my middle finger at the top joint. It appeared about 6 weeks ago and was a small bump and has progressively got bigger and now it's very sore. It's about the size of a marble now.
First doctor said it was a blood blister so used a needle and drained it. Not much blood came out and we wrapped it up. It was the same size next day, only sore.
Second doctor said it was a ganglion cyst and tried to drain it again and it was just all blood. She told me before hand that cysts are full of clear stuff so was a bit surprised when dark blood came out. Still insisted it was a cyst and that I will need to have it removed via surgery.

So now I am left with a big, purpleish blue lump that is very sore that won't seem to go away. I have googled every cyst imaginable and none look like this. I don' believe it is a cyst nor a blood blister. Any ideas on what it could be?

Go get an opinion from a specialist they will organize an ultrasound before doing surgery. I have had a cyst removed and it was only clear fluid not blood.

Thanks black_rose. I'm thinking I might ask when I go to hospital (I'm due on monday) and see if they can get anyone to have a look at it. My GP said to come back after the baby is born and she will give me a referral. It's just so tender OUCH!

I didnt know ganglion cysts could be coloured? Its supposed to be leaked fluid in a sac under the skin - I have one on my wrist driving me nuts too. It doesn't hurt to touch either. My wrist gets sore though.

I have googled everything about ganglion cysts and that sounds exactly like one! Not like mine They just remove them with local anaesthetic

Tasha it depends where it is mine was under a general as its was surrounded by tendons and veins. My surgeon said they are very common in woman with young children with all the lifting and carrying, especially on the hip.

I had one on the wrist and it went away on its own. DH had one on his finger joint and again it went away on its own. However, we both had ultrasounds to confirm.

I've also got one on my wrist between the joints it's hurts to bend my wrist too much but otherwise I forget its there dr didn't recommend surgery or draining lol and I tried the book trick

If your not convinced just get another opinion

Mayby it is a cyst and the first draining caused I bleed which was seen at the second draining?

Mine had to be removed as it was painful to do anything and my fingers were going numb.

I have a feeling it just isn't a cyst. It's blue! And it's really painful I am trying to think of someone to see about it, but 2 GP's already and I don't think either was right. Maybe I could book in another suburb? lol
