We went for a consultation but left when the guy tried to tell me our only option was selling our house. I think the general idea is great but for where we were at then it wasn't any good.
Hi Rosetti, we've been with My Budget for three years now, best decision we ever made. Hubs and I had gotten ourselves in quite the financial pickle and were on the verge of legal action from several creditors. With their help we've paid off our car, several credit cards and loans and even been on a couple of holidays.
The staff are wonderful and nothing is too much trouble. I can't recommend them highly enough.
If you have any questions, feel free to PM me at anytime.
It depends on you - a friend from mothers group did it, and ended up having to pay extra to get out early because they just weren't doing things when they should have been, and were being really inflexible.
My friend felt like things were less in control, rather than more, and figure that if she was simply better organised they'd be able to do it themselves, and not be paying someone else all those admin costs. So she felt like she was paying someone to not do their job, and to bully her financially.
The benefit they got from it was making those initial payment plans, and making a budget. (That being said, they could have sat down with her parents in law to do it!) But even with their issues with the company, that was a benefit they received.
What they did themselves (when push came to shove!) was getting organised about making sure every payment was made in full on time, and not impulse buying. Not online, not at the shops, not planning on having a night out, and spending $50 more on drinks than they'd intended.
If those are all things you can do on your own (or with some help from a friend, to get the structure right to start with, and get some payment plans organised if needed) then it might not be any value.
If however you can't do it alone - or you've tried unsuccessfully already, and you're in immediate financial distress) then it might be worthwhile, and you can get some more information about it.
So yeah, for them, they "took the reins back" quite quickly, and I suspect wished they'd got some help from family or friends to get their act together to start with, but once they had a system in place, they got it all done on their own.
That was a couple of years ago, and since then, they've kept up to date on their home loan, they've paid for a substantial ($14K) enterprise, and are living comfortably as a family of 4.
The main question is what will it give you, that is worth paying for - and is it a good price. That's the real consideration you and your DH need to make.
Thank you for the experiences. DH called them and they said they can help. We have the free consultation in around 2 weeks time, they are going to make the appointment that week. Seems silly they can only do it 2 days in advance.
