Anyone made a 14 inch square cake?

As title suggests I am going to be making a 14 inch cake, well two actually, one will be cut into a 4 which will sit on top of the square.

Am just going to use boxed cake mixes. Can anyone suggest how many to make one 14 inch square?

Ha ha thanks It's a construction theme. Will have way more cake than I actually need but has to fit all the vehicles on it! Will have an excavator digging out the little cut out in the 4, a dump truck going down a ramp off the 4 onto the base, a crane maybe holding a sign or something, a grader smoothing out the 4 and a front end loader as well as some fencing...still need to nut it out!

I might just spread icing on the cake board so will only need to make one cake...decisions!

This I've gotta see! My boys are construction mad and have both requested this exact kind of cake for their next birthdays, do you have a pic of it or is it a make it up as you go along kinda thing?

I'm sure I'll have pics on FB

I trawled through all the different ones when I googled...then picked out aspects I liked and thought I would be able to manage and have come up with my own design. I think the beauty of this kind of cake is that you really can't go wrong! The trucks will be digging and bulldozing the cake so it's meant to be a bit messy, which is great for me!

    The cake sounds amazing.

WRT the amount of packet cake you'll need. I'd say 4 and a half packets
