DH turning 30 - gift ideas?

November this year, DH turns 30!

I have zero gift ideas for him. He's into cars and tools - he'd like a drop saw lol - but I want to get him something special. The problem is he doesn't wear jewellery, not even a watch or wedding ring, because of his job. So I can't get him something like that engraved.

We'll have a very new baby at that stage (edd 23/10, DH birthday 16/11) so I'm thinking I should start thinking about it now.

Any ideas to throw at me?

Is there a race track nearby that do v8 supercar hot laps? We got one for my dads 50th (we're a car mad family) & he loved being behind the wheel & driving around the track.

Was going to say the same as ticktock, fast laps at the raceway. Google them, there's always heap to choose from, even some with some retired race drivers
I got dh motorbike race day for his 30th this year and I think several months later he is still on a high from it.

Oh yeah a hot lap sounds like a good idea.

My hubby turns 40 tomorrow and I had one idea in mind, and then suddenly thanks to a kids school excursion another idea came to me.

I bought DH a table saw that I saw him eyeing off for his 40th... He was exceptionally pleased with me I reckon if he likes tools and you know the one he wants... Get it, that's special cause you know it's something he will use.... Lots

He's one of few guys not to like V8s! He's into imported V6s and rally cars. Unfortunately he and my brother did a half day rally driving course a little while ago, where they get to drive the cars. He loved it, but it's not original for me anymore lol.

ETA: Lol myturn, I told him if I get him the drop saw I'll be engraving it

Is there something else that he might like in the way of experiences? I have given things like behind the scenes at the zoo, vintage plane rides, hot laps etc and they have always been well received!

Or if he is into tools, how about a Leatherman or some other kind of multi tool. You can get some really good ones. My husband loves his!

Yes the Leatherman is a big hit here, somehow the bugger already has 2

I think the experiences may be out, as we'll both be exhausted at that point and he's going to want me to go with him, which might be a bit hard with a 2.5yo and a newborn. I really wanted to engrave something but all the ideas are kind of tacky or he wouldn't wear/use them.

Do you think he would wear a dog tag style piece? You can get handprint, footprint or even fingerprint stamped jewellery items. They send you the kit to get the prints (DH did one for me with Moo's handprints on a pendant) and they size it down to fit on the piece you have chosen. I know they do cuff links and stuff like that for men, but maybe a dog tag is more up his ally?

Or how about a digital photobook? You could do a year per double page spread if you have access to his childhood pics. You could add in little funny stories etc. I did one for DH for Fathers Day once and he loved it, though it was more about him as a Dad.

    Will keep thinking!

Engraved drop saw - with a dorky name of sorts - my dads lawn mower was labeled the johnmobile painted in white - cursive writing. Corny but kinda cool. Lol.

    i think it's a fine idea

Does he drink? Maybe a nice crystal glass set, or just attractive glass set with a glass that's engraved? Or get him the drop saw with a mug or something with kids pictures or hand prints on it for memories. A personalised tool box?? Just chucking ideas out there.

Mine was pretty pathetic, got dh a kindle for his 30th. He'd been talking about getting one for ages.

A high tech weather station? I keep thinking of things I have given DH, he is sooo hard to buy for lol. But he is obsessed with his weather station. It has a rain gauge, a thing on the roof for the wind, a temp gauge...all wirelessly connected to a monitor inside the house

That is what I got my hubby from the kids ~Hestia~. Being storm chasers... well sort of goes hand in hand

Is he someone that drinks? A bottle of port/collector wine from the year he was born? A bottle of bundy with personalised label (you can order from the distillery)

Honestly if he wants tools, then get him exactly what he wants or the model above that he is really drooling after.

I know my DH would be stoked to get what he wants/needs rather that what I "think" he should have.

Yep that's my DH too Hestia, ridiculously hard to buy for. I think in all honesty he's going to get the drop saw anyway, and with the work he's doing he'll need it sooner rather than later. But then it kind of seems like it's not very birthday-y, he would have got it anyway and the occasion doesn't matter.

I think I'll keep looking for something small that can go along with it as something special from me & the kids.

Mine is another like yours and they sound like they could be twins except DH is 13/11 and a year earlier lol

I don't think I got him anything in the end
