Bleeding cord on 11 day old

My little guy is 11 days old and we've just noticed this afternoon that his cord is just hanging on by a thread and where it his come off has bled a little. I've been so worried of it getting infected but mums looked and reckons it doesn't look infected at all. Are they suppose to bleed or do I need to get this looked at? We havent intentionally pulled at it at all but I suppose it could have got caught on something and is coming away too soon?

DS2's cord bled on and off for the first few weeks. As long as it doesn't look infected and it's not smelly then it should be fine

the cord is like a scab, same as if you pick the scab too early it bleeds. like others have said as long ss its not oozing gunk or the skin around isnt red it will be ok (the cord itsself might get smelly)

No oozing or redness around it so that's good. Is there something particular cleaning-wise I should be doing now that it's sort of 'open' iykwim?

nope nothing. just water is fine. if you can try and avoid nappy rubbing on it. if you really felt you had to put sonething on it you can use betedine, but if it looking healthy and healing should be right

Try keep it as dry as possible, so if you do give it a clean, dry it by gently rubbing a cotton bud around it.

Many, many years ago I accidentally knocked my niece's cord stump when changing her nappy, it came right off and bled for ages! I felt terrible She on the other hand was not fussed at all.
