My ASD boy is 6.5 and as we've still got quite a bit of funding available to us we are looking to the future and going to get some resources while we still have help funding them. My question is to those with older children (and I realise they are all different!) what sort of resources did you find you needed as they got older.
ATM I have a few things on my list, including, updating his body sox (current one is now too small lol), a weighted lap bag, a second disc-o-sit and to update/upgrade our trampoline (we bought ourselves a cheaply one, but it's just not going to last much longer so we are looking at a much better quality one to last a bit longer)
Is there anything you can think of which may need updating too? He has a variety of weighted items, I'm thinking of updating his weighted blanket too as when he first got it he was only 14kg, he's now 19kg and it doesn't seem to be heavy enough for him. Oh another thing, we are looking for pillow ideas, ATM he sleeps on a small beanbag and I'm really not liking the idea (even though he's 6.5 I'm concerned about suffocation) what other options for pillows is there?
My DS is only 5.5 yrs. not sure if your has an iPad or not but they are very useful we are also getting a stylus pen for it as it helps with fine motor skills, does he need fidget toys or any learning resources ? I any help with the pillows sorry.
Yep he does have an iPad, it's been really helpful for speech and with his writing We are considering an iPad mini so when we are travelling (which is fairly often due o our location) it will keep him occupied in the car. But we will probably have to cover that one ourselves as they've already funded one iPad.
We have lots of fiddle toys and some chewy ones too (he's a sensory seeker and loves to chew on things). As far as learning resources go we will probably be looking at getting him his own desk soon. He's delayed in all areas but his main areas of struggle are with reading and writing. We are looking at weekend sport to help with his gross motor skills too.
