    Scared of the dark?

We've been settling Mr 13mo in his cot, rather than cuddling him to sleep in the lounge.

He settles just fine during the day, but not at night and settles a lot better if the hallway light is shining brightly into his room.

Can little ones be afraid of the dark? I didn't think they had fears at this age?

They definitely can be scared of the dark. My kids settled better with a light on from about that age too.

Char, when we were still in hospital when the girls were born, we would turn off all the lights at night and E would start crying but the minute we put a night light on, she would calm down. So, how young is too young for fears?

All of my girls need a light on to sleep. And all have needed a night light of sorts since the early days.
Definitely think they can be scared of the dark though

Mine went through that stage but I wasn't giving in and putting the light on as you need darkness to have a propper restful sleep, and my niece still has a full light on at 6 and didn't want to have to try and take it off at a later stage. They got through that stage though with reassurance, dd also had a toy she could press that lit up for a little bit then turned off so if she woke she'd press it occasionally but now she doesn't care.
