Second Baby - when did they sleep through???

I was very lucky DD was sleeping 10 - 7 from 5 weeks and 7 - 7 from 8 weeks. Am curious to know what the chances are of this happening again? I am guessing slim...

Would be interested to hear when your babies slept through.

Mine still doesn't But then neither did my first until about 2.5 years! Even now he'll wake at least once a week, more if he's not well.

My second baby starting sleeping from about 8-5 at 2.5 years old. Prior to that he was having one wake up a night... and prior to that it was many, many wake ups for a long time

Mine was over 2 years old too! It could be genetics though for yours to sleep through earlier. Mine like feeding lots so wake frequently.

My first slept through from 6weeks

But number 2 is about to turn 4months and still doesn't

They have vastly different personalities and my first was formula fed and my second is breastfeed

I have had 4 - and they are currently 6.5 years, 5 years, nearly 4 (in November) and 2.5 years.

    None of them sleep through.

However, the two oldest no longer come into our room and let us know that they are awake, but the 5 year old crawls in with the 6.5 year old so we know she wakes up because she's not a sleep walker, and the 6.5 wakes up because he has a clock in his room and he tells us what time it is that he wakes up.

The youngest two wake up and get in our bed, so we know they definitely still wake up - multiple times.

I don't expect any child to sleep through after my experience - but I don't sleep through the night and I'm 36 so I guess they take after me.

First baby started sleeping longer at night from 6 months. 6-7 hours. Pretty long really.

Second child started sleeping all night from about 18 months. Although still woke up just once a night for about another year. But didn't need more than a quick kiss and cuddle and he was back asleep again.

I was desperate for first child to sleep as I was underprepared for the sleeplessness of motherhood and overwhelmed by the whole thing. I didn't care less for second child - I had learned to cope better by then.

I've had a mixed bag with my three. In answer to your question, my second son slept through from 3 weeks (his lead and in hindsight I wish I realised how lucky I was). I used to dreamfeed him around 10pm ish each night. As for the others, DS1 slept through from approx 3 months of age, and we're still waiting for DS3 to sleep through, but I think he likes boob too much as he generally grizzles till he gets a bf in the wee hours. He always starts the night off in his cot, and ends up in our bed at some stage, so we're co-sleepers by default

    DS1 was a dream - 6-7 hours from 3 weeks, 10-12 hours from 3 months.

DS2 didn't sleep much or regularly until around 9 months.

    Sorry!

DS2 didn't sleep much or regularly until around 9 months.

    Sorry!
Lol! We were pretty similar here!

DD1 slept 9-10hrs staight from 9 weeks, 12 hours from around 3 months. Sure, she'd have her bad nights when she was teething, had a night terror or was sick but all in all she slept well at night and still does.

DD2 slept really well initially too but it all went pear shaped when she started teething around 5 months. This continued until almost 9 months and I was up most night with her at least 5 times, often 8 She did eventually sleep through around her first birthday and it became consistent around 13-14 months. Naturally she still wakes when she's unwell or teething. Unfortunately she's recently started experiencing night terrors too so I anticipate another year or so of them interrupting sleep every now and then.

To cut a long story short, lol, my girls have been quite different sleepers except that they both fell into their own routines around 5-7 weeks of 3 blocks of sleep overnight (with 2 feeds) so it was 5hrs, feed, 4hrs, feed, 3hrs, up for the day. They both just naturally did it.

I am the bearer of good news.

My 1st slept 8 hrs from birth. I thought there was something wrong with him.

    2nd slept 8 hrs from 2 weeks.

3rd was the same as 2nd.

My 2 have been fairly consistent in their sleeping patterns, so you might get another who sleeps long periods early.

If my 3rd sleeps long periods i will probably lose my mind with worrying about them.

Our second started sleeping through regularly at around 5 or 6 weeks. My first didn't sleep through til well after his 1st birthday and still wakes at 4 years old. I have learnt that it just depends on the kid

Wow, looks like pot luck. Thanks ladies. Tinks You give me hope I have had such a tough pregnancy and have had very little sleep, very different to my first PG so was wondering if it was my body preparing me for what was coming We will see I suppose. I know I was really lucky with DD.

Do you think gender comes into play i.e. girls sleep better than boys - I have heard that a lot.

Gender made no difference for me! If anything DD's worse.

First did 7-3 from about 7 months, then 7-6 from 11 months.
Second did 8-4 from about 6 weeks until 4 months, when it all fell apart, and now she wakes two hourly all night, sometimes more. But, quite honestly, she's actually an easier baby because she's so content.

    Two boys.

    No correlation here!
