Question Chesty cough, no other symptoms

    Hi everyone,

My almost four year old has a chesty cough (now on day 5 of the cough). He has a slightly runny nose (mostly clear, some green) but no other symptoms. Eating, sleeping and playing as usual. No breathing difficulties and energy levels are fine.

I don't think I need to take him to the Dr, but I just thought I'd check out what you all think...?

    TIA!

My kids have had similar. It tends to last for weeks. i took DS to dr cos he seemed worse, and he is a chesty kind of a kid (illness often hits him there). dr said his chest was crackly and he was given ABs. illness followed similar path in both kids, so not sure if i waited too long for ds to start ABs or whether they were unnecessary and he would have got rid of the illness himself.

So, i would probably be comfortable with not taking him to the dr if it was just the cough.

Had similar here. Visited the doc, told it was a virus as chest clear. Didn't go away and few weeks later we were back for anti b's for a chest infection.

Nope I would just monitor it and only go if it worsens, lasts for an extended time, or a wheeze develops.
