    Travelling to Bali with Children

    Hi BBers!

We have a family holiday coming up in mid October to celebrate my mothers bday. There will be 7 adults and 2 littlies (my DS 21 months and neice 11 months). We want to have umbrella strollers over there for getting around but hubby thinks instead of taking it in luggage we should buy there.. which is fine they are all that expensive (here anyways) but i am worried
    1. they wont be available
    2. they would be expensive?

    any insight from Bali travellers?

also any tips on travelling through bali with little ones?

    Thanks!

Honestly, strollers will probably be a pain in the butt to use over there. Great for airports, but that's about it. Pavements are pretty crappy, some places non existent. How old are the kids? A carrier may be a better option for use over there.

Edit: just saw the ages. If you like the idea of a carrier, have a look at something like an ergo or tula.

I just had a friend come home early from her trip to Bali with a 12 month old. She struggled with the hygiene factor, but was off the beaten track.

Are you staying in a resort?

I have travelled through Thailand with a 3 year old and 9 month old and used the carrier a lot, but did like having a stroller for meal times/shopping days so bub could sleep. It is hot for both mum and bub to be carried always.
We just had a crappy one from home we took. We thought we would just dump it if it was a pain but actually used it a lot, including putting 3 year old down for naps if bub was carried. I would think a 21 month old would need a day sleep and you will appreciate having somewhere to put them, even if it means you're by the pool and you can both relax knowing DS is with you and safe and resting/snoozing/eating etc.

ETA you can hire strollers over there if you need and have it delivered to your hotel so it's there when you arrive. We did that while Travelling in USA. With a child 21 months though I'd want a stroller in the airport too though and would consider taking one with me.

They really aren't that hard to travel with, but carrying sleeping child and suitcases is tough.

We are heading to bali on Saturday and there is no way I'd take a stroller.
The paths are not anywhere near good enough to push a stroller, the road yes but no in their right mind would push a stroller in the road

For a young bub I'd take a carrier.

DD is 3 in December and we have thought her to ride on daddy's shoulders in case she doesn't want to walk.

I wouldn't take a pram to Bali either but if you really want to, I would buy one of the $25 cheapies from Big W or Target, and then donate it to some Balinese kids before I came home.
