    Studying and Carers Payment

I'm currently receiving carers payment for DS1 who is 5. He's in school now (but still requires a lot of work with appointments and meetings with school etc). I'm looking at studying part time and have lodged with QTAC. Am I able to study part time and still receive Carer's Payment?

Yeah for sure. As long as the study doesn't take you away from your caring responsibilities. If your study involves placement you will need to look at whether you need to access respite for any time you're away from him if it exceeds 25 hours in a week (from memory)

I get both Carers payments and the lady on the helpline confirmed study isn't a problem so long as I'm physically not away from my partner for more than 25 hrs per week.

I'm physically away from my son 30 hours a week with school :/
I can't figure out if part time study makes me eligible for JET with the 4 LOs

The rules must be different for school age caring responsibility, I care for an adult.

I'd give the Carers helpline a call, they're lovely and really helpful.

i don't really think his schooling would really come in to it - as long as you are available while he is at school in case something happened and you were needed kwim?
you'd need to talk to someone in the carers team to know for sure.
they should be able to tell you if JET is compatible with Carers - from memory it is, but because i'm not trained in that payment stream, i can't say yes or no for sure

They recently changed it. I received a letter only a couple of weeks ago stating that it was now 30 hours a week. I'd look online, or call them just to be sure though
