Ear Infections in 10 month old.

Just after some advice please everyone. My bub is 10 months old and since the end of June my little boy has had recurrent ear infections. He has red ears now for the sixth time. We have seen the same dr most of the time during this period but there have been times where we have seen others. We have had the on call dr out, we have been to the emergency and the 24hr clinic all for temps that were getting too high. He seems to start recovering and is ok for a few days and then what do you know a few days later his ears are red again and the high temps are back. Just wondering what you would do in this situation? Does this sound normal to you? Do you think a referral to an ENT specialist is necessary? I should add he has had antibiotics twice in this time and has also been unwell with a nasty upper respiratory cough and snotty nose.

We had something similar. Reoccurring ear infections from 9-12 months. He was on antibiotics nearly that whole time. On for a week then off for 2 days & another ear infection. Grommets were the best thing for us. I wasn't happy with him being on antibiotics for so long and since then we've had 3 ear infections & we just use the drops.

no experience with my own DS but I had recurring ear infections as a kid for several years and had an appointment to have grommets inserted when my mum took me to a naturopath - all dairy was eliminated from my diet and the infections cleared up immediately. Hope you're able to find a solution for your bubba - ear infections are no fun

We've had recurrent ear infections since DD was 1. She had grommets in at 20 months (April this year) & still had ear infections & she had an ear infection a week after grommets were inserted, between April & July we had 6x oral abs & 4-5x ear drops, along with 3 week visits to the ENT specialist to have massive amounts of discharge sucked out of her ears, as you can imagine this was traumatic for the both if us. The constant illness stressed me. The constant ab's irritated me (she now cannot have amoxicillin because she's had so much of it) 2 months ago the specialist said if the discharge continues she will have to go back in hospital, dr will take the grommet out look around and put a new one in. I personally didn't want to do the whole surgery thing again, but if required I will. After a discussion with DH I was certain we weren't the only ones that have been in this situation so I remembered the GP saying DD's constant runny nose could be a dairy allergy. I started googling & stumbled across a few articles where other parents have removed dairy from the child's diet & infections ceased.

DD has been completely dairy free for 2.5 months & we've not had a single ear infection/discharge!

I whole heartedly recommend going dairy free. It is tough, but well worth the results!

    Wow Miss M,
Thank you for sharing. Your poor little girl. Although we haven't been through the whole hospital and surgery scenario, i can understand somewhat what you mean by the stress it causes. I've been so anxious. My poor boy has been sick with recurrent ear infections for three months. I dread it. He's well for a few days and then the temps hit again. It's so horrible when your child is in pain and there is not a lot you can do to help. It's great your little one hasn't had a problem since stopping dairy. I will definitely give it a go. Thanks again and good luck
