Can I first just say that I'm planning on taking DD1 to the doc, but I want to keeps a bit of a food diary for a few days first.
DD1 regularly has very loose stools. When she was wearing nappies I used to just think they looked like that as maybe she had sat in them. Now that she's toilet training I have come to realise that they are just very loose.
Yesterday I spoke to a friend who's daughter had various intolerances when younger and she said the doc suggested eliminating one thing at a time and keeping a diary to see if they could pin point the reason.
My first thought is lactose. When I was younger apparently I couldn't tolerate cows milk. DH gets an upset stomach if he has too much milk. One of DHs cousins has lactose intolerance. I purchased some almond milk last night and am going to try it for a few days to see if it makes any difference.
Another thought we have is celiac disease. DHs grandfather and a cousin both have this
Does anyone have any other suggestions of things to try before going to the doc? I guess I want to go armed with as much info (ie I've tried 'x', here's a list of what she's consumed) before going so I just don't get sent away and told to try these things or keep a record before going back....
Ds is cows milk intolerant/allergy but I've recently noticed his poos have gone back to runny too.
However, he is on zantac and I'm trialling a reduction in dose (it's since his dose was upped weeks ago this started). Is she on any regular meds??
Is it maybe due to how much fruit she is having?? Document how much each day and the differences in stools.
Not much help here - I'm battling the same as you.
We found he reacts to:
Tomato (runny poo)
Milk products (rash, mucous/bloody poo)
Onion (worsens reflux)
Initially he couldn't have apple either (rash) but that's slowed.
Egg (wind)
ah! my DS might be similar. also had intolerances/sensitivities to foods since birth. i know dairy is a trigger (gut issues when he was little, skin issues now - but maybe gut issues too?), but there might be something else too. local dr is hopeless, and has said he won't refer til DS is 2. i am not sure medicine is the answer, maybe a naturopath or dietician but not sure how to go about it.
Thanks for the info. I'm not really sure how to go about it either. I thought that since celiac might be a reason a doc visit is prob necessary, but if it's not that then having a diary of what we've eaten could help....
I have thought fruit may be a trigger, she loves fruit and would happily eat it all day if I let her. I'm keeping track of everything for a while I think.....
It could just be toddler diarrhoea Toddler's Diarrhoea, Loose Stools in Children | Patient.co.uk it's quite common and normal - DS2 had it and in hindsight, DD2 had it as well. With DS2 it was quite bad and we had him tested for coeliac disease and a few other things. He did have trigger foods though - no juice or cordial at all and anything with too much fibre in it were no-no's and we had to limit his fruit to one piece a day. He grew out of it at about 4.5yrs.
With ours, the doc said 'they'll grow out of it'. So I took them to a naturopath who ordered a blood test, can't remember what it's called but it checks for intolerance to the main culprits, dairy, nuts, gluten etc. Results showed nuts were the issue in varying degrees, eliminated nuts, took a probiotic, poop firmed up, and reintroduced nuts about a year later. They seem okay now, not that I really looked at their poo once they toilet trained.
