Again... really... are you kidding me!

My children both have conjunctivitis.... again!
Seriously it's doing my head in!

How do they get it? They are the only kids at daycare that have had it, they haven't been near anyone thats had it yet both have it again.

This is like the 4/5 time in the course of a month and a half.
I do salt water baths and eye drops every 2 hours, hot wash sheets/pillow case and toys every day and am like a crazy person with the alcohol wash.

What else can i do? It's driving me nuts!

Have they got runny noses? My ds used to get conjunctivitis everytime he had a cold as he would wipe his nose with his hand then rub his eyes.

Some kids are just more prone to it than others. It is so annoying when they keep getting the same illness. You're doing everything right.

Have you tried the antibiotic eye drops? You have to use them for five days after symptoms clear to make sure it's gone.

Both mine had it recently, and with ds we didn't even use the eye drops and it we t away on its own- no extra cleaning or anything.

You can buy chlorsig over the counter apparently. It's eye drops.

Get the cream, it's much more effective, the drops don't stay in the eye for long enough, the cream really sticks.
I find that my ds gets it much more in windy hay fever-y weather.
It's horrible, but they do seem to grow out of it.

Do they actually have discharge from their eyes? My eldest DD was very prone to developing pink eye(s) but 90% of the time it was allergy/virus & never developed. In the end I would give her a dose of antihistamine & if it looked better the next day, it wasn't conjunctivitis at all. Took me a while to twig though...

    Yep. Both have the discharge.
Dd2 has it worse than dd1. I clean dd2's and no more than 30mins later it's running down her face again.

Have you taken them to the drs? The reason I ask is because the few times my DD got "real" conjunctivitis, she actually had other stuff like ear infections and/or tonsillitis. The one time it reoccured, the dr have her steroid eye drops in addition to the regular sort. They may need more treatment than the over-the-counter stuff.

There are different types of conjunctivitis...one is more of an allergy/hay fever type reaction. Maybe that's what's causing your LO's symptoms? If that's the case, I'd imagine the treatments are different (and probably doesn't matter how often you clean or wash bedding etc) and would explain why no one else is getting it at daycare too.
