Question Advice and tips for grommet insertion

    Hi everyone,

My Mr 4 is having grommets in on Thursday because of fluid build up in the middle ear from a blocked tube and it has been affecting his hearing (he doesn't have recurrent ear infections, the reason most kids have grommets). Because of the severity of his his hearing loss (he tested at almost profoundly deaf, even though I thought he wasn't nearly that bad!), it has all been a bit of a rush having had an ENT appointment yesterday we are getting surgery tomorrow.

So what do I need to know about the surgery? Any tips or advice?
What is he going to want to eat after?
Do I take him to/home from hospital in PJs?
What will he need in terms of pain relief?
Is he going to be back up and about the next day or should he have a day in bed?

He is going as a private patient in a private hospital. His surgery is at 2pm so he has to fast from 8am (normally they try and get the kids done first up but the ENT couldn't do an AM surgery for another 10 days). I'm guessing TV and books and stuff will keep him entertained and distracted...

    Hi there Bloom!

When I was a kid I had multiple sets of grommets inserted until the age of 12! For the same problem! Except I also suffered bad ear aches..

I remember being fine after the surgeries except for being a bit groggy from the anesthetic there was no pain or anything...

It's a pretty easy surgery and there is no damage to the ear at all so he should not have any pain afterwards!

He should bounce back pretty quickly

    Good luck x
