So I've really only today realised that we'll need to get DS a Christmas present. He's only going to be 2 months old so he's not going to care, so I hadn't considered it. But DD cares *a lot* about Christmas this year - Santa and everything - so she'll notice if he doesn't get anything. So I'm going to need something from Santa, and something from us.
It doesn't need to be big or expensive but I'd like it to be kind of special. We're set for clothes for now and we don't need more baby toys. I'm at a loss what we can get him, any ideas would be appreciated!
Nice plate/bowl/cup set (eg bunny kins, royal doulton, whatever) or silver spoon. Ok so he's not going to use it for a while but he won't use any other pressies right now either
Swing/jolly jumper/bumbo
Gorgeous high quality teddy bear (always hilarious when it's bigger than your baby is)
Socks with rattles/bells in them (ie, when they kick the rattle goes)
Some kind of touch/sensory play mat or one of those stand things with toys hanging off them
A toy that has some kind of symbolic value (eg, first football in family's team colours, high quality copy of your favorite picture book, first toy musical instrument if one of you play, etc)
The thing here is that he's not going to interact with it straight away so you can either get something he can play with anytime before next Christmas/birthday, or something that will have lasting value for several years, or even longer term that can be handed down to his children.
A keepsake 'first Christmas' ornament? Maybe something to hang on the tree or a beautiful snow globe. Doesn't have to say 1st Christmas if you're not into being that literal.
My brother & SIL are taking care of the ornament - they got DD beautiful one with her name and the year on it for her first Christmas. Unfortunately she broke it last week so they're getting her a replacement this year and one for DS. Every year from Snapfish I get a little heart shaped one with a photo of DD on it so this year there'll be two, but I get them early and they just go on the tree.
I like the sock rattle idea, I haven't seen those before! Something he can wear/use while quite young
And MD you've reminded me I want to get him a decent play centre thing, one of those things he can sit in with toys around it. We borrowed one for DD and it was so handy when I needed to get stuff done and she could sit there and play.
You've been given some great ideas already! Buster was only a few weeks old for his first xmas and we gave him some baby rattly toys (we had none) as well as a couple of older baby items as he wasn't going to have a birthday until the following December
Have DD nominate what she thinks Santa should bring her brother. From you guys - for our DDs when they were babies we really liked the special plate sets (Royal Doulton, Wedgewood) to put away for future. Often family would buy those, but if he doesn't have any that's a good one. Or a nice book to put away as well.
A special photo album with photos of the family....you can do something online and turn it into a special book. 'This is Mummy' 'this is Daddy' 'This is DD'.....'This is you/DS' etc Your DD can help take and choose the pictures.
