Can I put coconut oil on broken skin due to nappy rash?

We went away last week and I stupidly used nappy wipes on DD so of course she came back with a nappy rash ( red and a bit spotty, ? Yeast looking but I don't really know)

I have been using coconut oil on it and it is nearly gone but she had red patches on her labia still last night, then this morning I noticed one of her labia has a bit of broken skin and is red ( the other one looks a bit better) I'm not sure if she may have scratched it in the bath last night cos she does scratch/rip at her tummy and legs and fanny when her clothes are off, also DH did the bath so I didn't see what she was up to.

Do you think I should still put coconut oil on the broken skin? Or should I use a barrier cream like zinc oxide?

She does poo a LOT, say 2-5 times a day, so I am worried about poo getting into it. Am trying to do nappy free time daily but it's been cold here in Vic so a bit hard.

personally I would go with a zinc cream just until it is healed, with coconut oil everywhere else. This is for the same reason you mentioned, to keep poo out of the cut area and avoid infection or having to scrub tender skin to clean it. Poor Miss E, hope she's all healed soon.

Coconut oil is fine on broken skin. It's very healing. Barrier cream is good too.

Dd had nappy rash so bad last fortnight that it was bleeding. It cleared up fully within a week of putting coconut oil on at every change.
