    Timber Floors

So we have met with another hiccup in renovating! (Yes I know, try and at least ACT surprised lol).

The timber floors are being sanded and polished at the moment. Problem is when the house was originally built, it apparently made good sense to only polish around the edges of the entry, hallway and lounge and leave the timber raw in the middle to cover with rugs. Can't see how this saved much money, but anyways....

So now that we want all the floors polished up, you have significantly aged timber in the center of these areas (dark) and then fresh protected timber around the outsides (light). There is no uniform shape to the colour variations either.

We are opting to stain the floors a bit darker to try and hide the variations but the reality is where it's is darker, it will stain darker and where it is lighter, it will stain lighter. Argh!

Has anyone else had this and found a good solution? Please please tell me yes!

Or are rugs my only option?

Is it possible to sand the floor some more? Maybe you can get a few more layers off to start to reveal the lighter colour?

They are already giving it a pretty heavy duty sand. I asked them this too. They don't seem to think we can do anything about it, I was just hoping someone else has had this problem with a solution too lol
