Does anyone find the Wonder Weeks hold true for their bub? We're finding the book/app handy, if only to have an explanation for unsettled behaviour that doesn't involve food/nappies/sleep.
The one thing I'm unsure of is that they say to date development from the due date. DS was born at 38wks and is 8 weeks today. So far, he's hitting what we think are Wonder Weeks according to his age from birth, not from due date.
he's currently asleep face planted on my boob after an hour of sooking. I'm not getting anything done today & it's perfect drying weather. I keep telling myself, if this is tough for us, it's much worse for him. It can't be easy having your world change so dramatically so quickly.
this is the 2nd Wonder Week. I'm pretty he's discovered his tongue but hasn't discovered his hands yet. He's a lot more interactive and "chatty" when he's not asleep or sooking.
I think the most helpful aspect is just being aware that they go through these developmental leaps every now and then and their behaviour and needs change accordingly. you will know whether there's something actually wrong with him, so otherwise you can just call it wonder week or teething or separation anxiety, or whatever, and ride it out.
Being aware like MadB so fantastically described is very true. All babies grow at different rates, and all have super cranky days periodically (Don't we all though? )
My DD2 was born close-ish to your DS3. DD2 was born at 40w5d on 1/11/13, and although she's my third, i've noticed she (like her siblings) isn't the typical baby depicted from the MCHN booklet, and that's cool with me and them, she's thriving regardless and at her own natural rate. I refer to them as a guide, when I feel I need/want too
DD was born at 41+5, but she didn't do them all early. Some were early, some spot on, some late. She just went at her own pace, but I could tell if it was a wonder week type thing because she really did change.
DS was born at 39+5, and has just come through his first wonder week, right when the app says so.
My dd was born at 38 weeks and was pretty on time but sometimes a bit later. Ds didn't seem to experience them in the same way or I just didn't notice them as much lol. He was born at 40 weeks.
Yeah, DS1 was closer to birth-date rather than due date. But DS2 is following the due-date pattern. With DS1 I just changed the dates on the ap to suit.
Poor bubba. Good thing he's got an understanding Mumma who will just cuddle him through it. xo
Like others have said, I generally notice some sort of unsettled behaviour sometime around the wonder week based on due date. Sometimes it's a week or so earlier or later, but it gives me a general guide. That being said, I generally find that for my girls wonder 'weeks' don't last the whole period.
DD2 has just come through week 55. I think she hits them all early, having been born 2+ weeks beyond 40. I don't know because I lose track of how many weeks old she is, but I do notice the leaps once they're over. I'm really lamenting week 55, she's jumped right out of babyhood!
DD1 made it far clearer when she was in a WW. I think there's a good buffer either side anyway. But most of ours have been pretty accurately spaced.
