So we have an outbreak of measles in my local community. Just want to see if anyone knows how effective the MMR vax is? My kids have both had 2 shots. Is it something they can still catch?
Yes, they can catch it. But with having had two vaccinations, their systems should recognise the antigens quickly, mount an immune response and kill the pathogen before you see any spots from it.
So unless you're in a class teaching how vaccination works (guess what I do!), they will probably appear unaffected. Less than 1% of those who have had two vaccinations will be affected, and even then it will be less of a dose than if they were not vaccinated at all.
Thank you. That gives me some peace of mind. Similar to the chickenpox thing then, you can still get it even though vaxed but only minimal symptoms. I should probably check my immunity. I'm not sure what vax I got as a kid/ teenager.
I dont seroconvert measles, Ive been vaxxed, and had the wild disease and my stupid body doesnt get it
Thankfully it looks like my kids are fine (oldest has been tested, youngest has just has his second MMR and been exposed to the wild disease, and was fine)
