Black Beauty? At that age I loved that book and would finish it, then flick back to the first page and start again. Also My Friend Flicka and the Black Stallion books.
I've got some babysitters club books & ..... High? (Brain fade)
Can't remember what else I was reading back then, goosebumps (still got them too) & anything put in front of me!
Awwww I've got the secret garden & the Anne of series.... Memories!
Keeping them for my girls but I think my niece might just get a free run of them first!
Wondering if a voucher for a book shop would be good.
Make a day to take her for hot chocolates & book shopping!
Might be a bit early for Harry Potter. Maybe save that for when she is 10 & about to turn 11 .
You could always steer her straight over to the Magic Wishing Chair, there's a whole series of those.
Others that I remember reading & loving around that time were books like Milly Molly Mandy, Mrs Pepperpot, and The Little White Horse. Charlotte's Web (of course). Heidi. She's probably not far off from The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. And I loved (with a passion) The Secret Garden.
ETA I second Truly Tan, that was big with my 9 year old niece last year.
Ella Enchanted
At The Sign Of The Sugared Plum
Stuff by Jackie French (Tom Appleby, Somewhere Around The Corner)
The Alex series is wonderful, as is the Song of the Lioness series by Tessa Duder. But they do have sexual relationships in them (not so graphic in Alex), so depends on her maturity and what her parents are happy for her to read!
