    Portacot for 4-5 month old?

anyone tried the babybjorn travel crib light?

for the next 6 months we will be living at 2 different locations (3 nights at one, 4 at the other). I have a lovely (expensive) cot at home already & im trying to decide whether I get another cheap cot & mattress, or buy a portacot for the new location. my ds is currently 4.5 months. cant seem to find much info about sleeping them in the portacot, other than to make sure mattress is clean and firm?

I have a friend whose youngest slept exclusively in a portacot until they put him in a big bed at 3 years old... LOL
We used a portacot for the better part of year with DD1 due to travelling, and the only thing I would say is to stand next to it set up before buying it, and make sure you can comfortably reach in and put bub in. If the sides are too high (and you are short arse like me ) then it can make life a PITA.

If you are not actually going to be packing it up and moving with it, then you can get foam cut to size from Clark Rubber to use in them.

Thanks, limeslice. I am short (smidge over 5ft...), so I will take your advice re: standing next to them before deciding.

I injured my back badly in a child care centre using a portacot. They are simply too low to lift safely in and out of.
Have you considered an Amby Baby Hammock? They are very easy to pack and move and set up in under 5 minutes. We've travelled with ours and DD is still in it at 14 months old but we will transition her to a mattress on the floor in a few weeks.

i've got an Amby, and love it, but they are also low and could hurt your back.

I agree Hotl, although at least with an Amby you have the option of getting down low on your knees etc whereas a portacot there isn't that option. For a short person I recon an Amby would be easier that a portacot too.

I find I can put DD in and out of the Amby quiet well cause the movement to put her in is kinda like a lunge. I'm just over 5ft 6.

that's true. that's how I got them in when tummy muscles were still recovering.

and you can bounce them to help keep them sleep in transition, I guess you would have to bend and pat in a portacot

hmm... perhaps I should just get a cheap, small cot. my back is already quite sore in the mornings. might look at getting a second hand one.

    thanks, ladies. : )
