Does your family have Christmas stockings? What do you put in them?
We never really had them until one year DD1 made some "lovely" ones out of paper & crayons (LOL). Since then the tradition has continued & the kids know they can dive into their stockings before we get up - it keeps them happy while I'm waking up (which can take a while thanks to my sleep disorder). I usually chuck in a few of those chocolate coins, a Christmassy cookie/lollipop, and a couple of small things like those puzzles with the balls in them, a tiny book, something that they can "do" straight away. Last year MIL knitted some lovely personalised ones so they will go up this year, and I don't want to give away any secrets but there might be LEGO involved this year!
But one year I'm gonna totally go ye olde worlde and it will be 1 orange & some nuts in their shells & like, one single stick of peppermint candy, a la Little House in the Big Woods.
We have stockings that my mum made a few years back with our names on them. They are filled with little things like lollies, book, new socks and some LEGO! DH and I do them for each other as well.
Yep, similar to you. Little bits and pieces until everyone is up.
Sadly DD1 and DS have matching ones, but I don't think I got one for DD2 last year, so might have to do some hasty arranging lol.
DH always puts one of those stockings of lollies in mine, not sure what DS will get as everything is too big for his - plus he has more presents than all the toy shops in town!
We have a sack, we tend to fill it with all the presents but let them 'spill' out showing the wrapping etc.
Stocking stuffers this year = candy canes, choc Santas, tinker bell pen, lego friends sharpener, lego Santa key rings, bubble bath, small pack earrings.
This year DD1 decorated & cut out a Christmas tree which she's stick in their room... The plan is to put the small stocking stuffers in little Santa suit bags, put them under her tree & hang their Santa key rings by blu-tack on the cut out like ornaments!
We never did stockings growing up, so it was a bit of a struggle for me when dd was given a stocking for her first Christmas from a friend of mums - and a monstrous one at that! For her first three Christmases SHE could fit in it!!!
When she shared a room with us she would get up and climb in our bed and open the stocking presents. So that became our tradition. She will come in to our room with her stocking and open it there. It's a nice relaxed way of waking up in Christmas morning..
This year, there might be some lego (shock horror!), some new matchbox/hot wheels cars, new singlets, ummmm I can't remember what else has been put aside for the stocking!
We don't do food stuff though. Never really thought to put food in there!
We have small stockings (made by my mum) which hang on our fireplace. In them go a packet of triple wafer biscuits (a tradition that goes back to my mum's childhood) and chocolate/lollies.
Our stockings always have a new toothbrush and toothpaste. Undies and singlets.
Then there is always Christmas morning breakfast in them. Cocopops and flavoured milk. It is THE only time all year they get Cocopops and it is such a treat! They love it!
We had stockings growing up and I took great joy in choosing one for DD's first Christmas. Incidentally the Oxfam shop have really beautiful stockings for good prices.
This year Saint Nicholas is giving DD (22 months) some pencils, Little Miss/Mr Men books, and a plastic drinking cup with a panda on it (pandas are her greatest love at the moment).
Not stocking as such, pillow cases that Father Christmas leaves presents in, they are not wrapped and Father Christmas never leaves stuff under tree. I have embellished some pillow cases for this year but often growing up was whatever could find, and last year I couldn't find my embellished ones so were plain. No particular traditions about what goes in them.
We have stockings. I had one growing up and it was always chocolate and socks and undies. Dd1 has always gotten undies, socks, chocolate, hair accessories, small books. Dd2 got a rattle in hers last year and this year is getting books, socks, a bib, and little people cars
