Just wondering how busy it gets to see the fireworks? Do you have to be there hours before? Is it on the beach? Thanks!

The fireworks are around the Harbour and it gets very busy ( but obviously nothing compared with sydney). Getting there hours early would get you a better position but you don't really need to do that. An alternative is to go to another beach that has great views towards the harbour such as Towradgi.

Thanks Nicnac. We aren't familiar with the area and weren't sure how it worked. We are staying at the Novotel is that close to the Harbour? Happy New Years for tomorrow night

When you come out of the front (beach side) of the Novotel the harbour is about 700 meters to the right. The fireworks go off from near the lighthouse on the hill. If you walk along the bike track there is a little beach (where the sailing boats are moored in the harbour) just past the Continental Pools- if it's warm it's nice to lay back on the sand and watch the fireworks.
