Gastro ... How long to recover (tmi)
Hi all
Got a huge bout of gastro last night. Continuously vomitting and had 3 diarrhoea.
Rested today but still feeling tired and slightly dizzy.
Have had hydrolyte twice since morning.
Problem is, tomorrow is my first day back at work after 17 months off maternity leave and ive already been in the bad books for extending my leave a few times.
You are still contagious for 48hrs after last vomit or diarrhoea episode so regardless if you feel well you will need to have the day off. One day after 17mths is not going to make a big difference but it will stop gastro spreading through your workplace.
Forgot to add, hope you are feeling better soon. Gastro is the worst!
even if you're feeling ok, you SHOULD quarantine for 24-48 hours after the last vomit/loose bowel movement for the sake of everyone you work with. in that time it should become clear whether your kidlets or spouse have it
i have a bit of an issue with people i work with returning too soon after having had gastro and spreading the germs to everyone else. we work in an office where it's not unusual (ok, very common!) for a parent to come in too soon after their child has been ill, end up ill themselves, and spread it to others in the office. i'm very much black and white about observing that quarantine period - not for me, for others. it means i use up more sick leave than others if dd is ill or i've been ill myself, but i've also recently had my mum very very ill and spent time with her in ICU with a patient who was severely immunocompromised - and had been exposed to gastro. not something i'd risk. see your gp so you have a certificate and wait it out.
