    Canberra

We are heading to a AFL game in Aug in Canberra. (Griffith). Can anyone recommend good accom? Want to be fairly close to ground. We will have a car with us but will also be picking someone up from airport.

Nowhere is too far from anywhere in Canberra I've found. I always stay at Kingston/Manuka because it's close to restaurants and a supermarket etc.

We will be staying at the Waldorf in Feb. I can let you know after how it is. I agree with Trillian though, Canberra is all pretty close.

    Re: Canberra

We stayed there on Saturday night. Place was nice, we had a two bedroom apartment. I think to expensive for what it was but we did not pay so can't complain. It is right near the lake and near a huge shopping centre and loads of restaurants. PIL stayed at the Novatel. Said it was good and near were we stayed. Crown plaza is also near there too.

Getting around Canberra is pretty easy once you get the jist but very easy to miss a turn and end up stuck. I don't know where the sports ground is or the airport in relation to where we stayed though so can not help with that. The public transport was good in the area though.

I did see a few sporting complexes off the main road driving in and out and they are simple and close to the city, maybe a 5-10 minute drive.

I recommend the Novotel at crown or Rydges Lakeside. They are both at the edge of the city (different sides) but on the same side of the city as Manuka Oval, you just go across commonwealth ave and down Canberra ave to get to it. In relation to the airport again really simple down parkes way which turns into the rd the airport is on.
Both are very nice and with in walking distance to the city for dinner etc. I live in Canberra and am pretty picky ;-)
