    Debt collectors...

I'm seriously weirded out. I had a phone call this morning. I think it was legit. But now I'm questioning the whole thing...

I have a phone bill my ex ran up in my name 6 years ago. I paid $20 a week for a long time, but I cancelled the payments a good while ago. I actually think I'll need to find some time to go through my accounts, because I'm very sure I paid a decent amount more than they're collecting. I think I kept paying after it'd been sent onto an agency. So I'm not sure where that money went. If the phone company has it, or they returned it to me when they returned an amount I over paid on the house bill (at the same time... controlling ex, frightened me trying to convince him on a mobile )

Anyway, the first I heard about this person was last night. I had a friend on FB message me to tell me some guy had called her, trying to get in contact with me. This person I've probably actually met face to face 5 times or so. Her partner works for my brother. She lives/works up in the city, no where near me. The only way to assume she & I know each other is that we are fb friends. That means this person looked into me on facebook & obviously she had her number visable (her work number). I'm guessing she was the first person on my list contactable? Makes me wonder how many others he called! (I do not, & will not put my number/address etc on fb) Though when I looked at my fb as someone else I couldn't see my friends list... so maybe it was simply down to looking at the comments on the very few public photo's I have... that I've now made sure are private :/

Anyway, then came the trying to get a person who's obviously never had to worry about spare money, accept that I have NO spare money & to accept what I was offering

I'm just feeling really uncomfortable about the whole thing. He had NO contact details for me at all. He told me both my surnames (married & maiden), which not a lot of people know, because I never officially changed my name. He also told me the suburb I live in & had the street (ONLY) of my old address.

Surely if the phone company has my details (they only called me to offer me a service a few days ago), they should've been able to access it somehow? I don't have my number listed, but its not private... my mobile is still through the company the debt was with...

I really never expected anyone to look at my facebook profile! Now I'm hiding EVERYTHING!

I've also now looked into the company, because I don't feel comfortable being asked how much I earn. I certainly wasn't sharing that info! And it all look ok. At least now I can sleep tonight, not wondering who this random stalker is... I didn't know if it was ex playing games & trying to get info or what the hell was going on!!

Ok, just needed to get that out & try figure out what is going on. & try to convince myself that I am still safe in my own home :/

    Re: Debt collectors...

Call your telephone company and talk to them and ask if they know of any outstanding and or sold debt so maybe you can find out if it's legit. That would be off putting have someone stalk you that way debt collector or otherwise.

    Re: Debt collectors...

This is obviously playing on my subconscious more than I thought. Suddenly I'm having nightmares about ex.

I don't know why, I left 2 years ago & I've never had nightmares before.
