    Lets talk Vacuums.

I need a new one. I have never actually bought one, been gifted them.

I want a good one for a large house that will do carpet, tiles and floorboards.

I know that you get what you pay for with most things but I don't want to spend a fortune. No more then $500 but as much under that as I can get would be fantastic.

What have you got? Any good?

Anyone have one of those Sharks?

I was going to say DYSON!!! All the way.... But it is a bit more expensive.... Worth every penny in my opinion, and if you look out for specials you might get lucky.... Usually the base model for the upright is about $650 I think... I got mine for about $495 in a special at Harvey Norman a few years ago. The upright model though.

Everyone I know who has a Dyson is REALLLLLLYYYYYY happy. So if you can find the money it's worth it.

YOu already know my view... Dyson!! I have had it over 10 yrs now. We got a new motor a few months ago and should see us through another 10! It was about $700 at the time. I adore my machine as much today as the day I bought the shiney new one home all that time ago!!

Well I'm going to say Miele. I researched and researched and the Miele seemed better. I got a more top of the range one, but a great sale price harvey norman. It's fantastic. Great suction, no dust escaping, easy to change bags, perfect for allergies and asthma etc. really happy with it

Dyson all the way. Only problem we had with ours was DH using it to clean up the brick dust and plasterwork mess from redoing all the pipework in the house and replacong ceilings and walls. That killed it after a year of renovations. Replaced with another superb Dyson.

SiL likes Miele, I will not allow pne in the house.

I was a Dyson lover till I got my Roomba. Nothing beats not actually doing the vacuuming yourself.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like I can not go wrong with a Dyson and I have doubled my budget so I can look at them. I knew they were pricey but I will get what I pay for by the sounds of things. I do like the idea of not filter too.

We've got the DC39 barrel and haven't had any issues with it we've got a mixture of hardwood floors, carpet (lounge/dining and bedrooms) and tiles (bathroom/toilets) and it goes easily from one surface to the next. love that the head automatically changes!

I know you alrady got one but just want to add Miele Cat and Dog Turbo $400 to the list.. It is phenomenal. And so light and manouvrerable. It tells you when the bag is full, sucks up all hair and sand. I actually have to use it on the medium suction setting coz the suction is so strong that I get too tired on the maximum setting!

I have dyson, durable but yeah quite pricey. If you want cheaper brand just maintain and take extra care in using so as not to damage or broke it. For carpets to minimise use of the vacuum you can brush it manually or have an air filter to minimise dusts and hair to go to the carpet.
