Melbourne beaches

Dh has to travel a bit for work, so I am exploring the option of tagging along one weekend and making it a holiday.

In Melbourne, where is it the nicest to stay beach side? It has to be public transport easy (preferably train/tram). We have only ever stayed in the city so I don't know what's nice.

If you want to be close to the CBD, have a look at St Kilda or Brighton. At Kilda is a short tram ride from the CBD. Brighton has the beach boxes. Maybe Port Melbourne too, although I'm not sure what accommodation is on offer there. It's where the cruise ships dock.

My fave beach is Chelsea- no idea about accommodation or transport!

Port Melbourne or St Kilda - both are touristy areas by the beach, with plenty of public transport.

South Melbourne or st kilda. St kilda has lots of accommodation options. Alternately williamstown is quaint and lovely.

I love edithvale. It's on the sandringham train line
