Carers payment /allowance and earning a one off income for a days work
Hey there
i might have the chance to get some one off work for 7 hours. However my only concern is if I take the work, how it will affect my carers payments and family tax benefits A and B
we currently get maxiumum benefits of both and usually quote our incomes though our tax, but dont want to get myself into trouble.
Will my payments be affected?
Do i have to notify them of this work if it happens?
also at the moment I dont have to do a tax return, but will I have to if they issue me a group certificate for this work??
Thanks
Re: Carers payment /allowance and earning a one off income for a days
You'll have to estimate your income to centrelink for ftb. You won't have to lodge a tax return unless you earn over the tax free threshold so you just notify them that you're not required to lodge as you usually do. You will have to do a tax return if you pay any tax on the money you earned though.
I'm pretty sure you'll have to declare the money you earn for carers allowance. I think there are limits to the amount of hours you work per week too.
Re: Carers payment /allowance and earning a one off income for a days
You will need to declare the income within a set period of earning it (14 days). If you and your partner haven't worked for a long period of time, you will accumulated working credits, and it is highly unlikely that 7hour work would impact your payments at all. You would need to adjust your estimate to include that money. And if the employer deducts tax (many will automatically do it) you would need to lodge a return to get back anything you've paid in tax (etax is great for that).
