Advice for a sick bubba :(

DD has had this green snotty cold for 3 weeks now. The green has come and gone, thought she was all good then it came back a few days ago. She now also has the runs. Foul smelling and explosive. Took her to the GP yesterday and they said there's nothing major aside from the cold. I've gone through so many nappies and clothes it's crazy.
So I am putting saline drops in her nose to help relieve congestion. I also have a vaporiser and I'm giving her water between feeds. Other than that what else can I do to make her more comfortable? Is there anything I could try give her to eat to ease the runny poohs?

Not sure about the cold as I don't think my DD has ever had one, but the runs might be related to teething, mine gets REVOLTING poo for 1-2 weeks before a tooth eruption- the poo isn't watery but loose, massive and foul smelling and creates a bad nappy rash too. I try to clog her up with bananas, bread etc but it just has to run it's course. It drives me to the brink of insanity though, as she tries to run away every nappy change.
Hope your baby is feeling better soon, sorry if I have steered you off on the wrong course with the poo but every time we have bad poos it is teething related.

Is she keeping fluid down? How is she otherwise? If she's lethargic, dehydrated or has any other symptoms (like fever, rash, etc) then I'd either go back to GP (or another GP if that one isn't helpful) or even to the ED.
I think if she's been unwell, the poo is more likely a sign of illness. She may well have more than one thing going on.

Re: Advice for a sick bubba :(

Saffy, I just had a MCHN appointment and she said her top teeth are bulging and ready to come out any day. So maybe the poos are related. She did have similar when the bottom two came, but not as big and smelly, but she was also only 5 months when the first two teeth cut.

MadB, She hasn't really shown any other signs other than irritability and getting tired more often. I wouldn't say fatigued, but she does have some red spots on her bum and back. Gp had a look and said they look to be insect bites. They don't seem to be bothering her and they aren't getting bigger or multiplying.

I'm gonna go with teething mixed with a cold. Poor little bubba, teething must be awful If it does get worse I will take her back to the GP. They did say bring her back if I am still worried by the end of the week.

Mine gets a snotty nose with teething too, not green though, maybe their immune systems drop a bit at the time.

It's cute when they get top teeth.

We only got bad poos with teeth recently xx

Baby colds can hang around for ages. A little red rash is also common and a harmless sign of a viral infection (aka the cold). The health direct line told me once that the rash should clear up by the end of the third day / fourth day, if not get her checked out again, especially if, as MadB says, she seems lethargic, isn't drinking or keeping fluids down, listless, feverish etc. but as I said baby colds can hang around!

Jack has had Adenovirus. Cold followed by vomiting and diarrhea. Explosive poos. I thought it was just a cold and maybe teething but had stool sample done and Adenovirus was confirmed. Try yogurt and bananas. Yogurt for the probiotics and bananas to stop the flow. Keep up the fluids and panadol. Good luck. Its tough having a sick bubba. Hugs.

DD2 has broncialitis , she is having bad cold symptoms , bad fevers , seriously bad cough .. We got her checked out , and all that we cha do is Panadol is needed , keep up the BF so she is hydrated , no need to push solids , she doesn't want them anyway ATM .. Keep offering but they will decide if they want them .. If she had a cough be careful of any dairy as it can make or worse ..

Iv also noticed DD now has a lot of runny poos .. We are just riding it out , the cold and coughs can lady an few weeks after the main stuff is over with

Nothing but panadol was prescribed. My dr also to cut back bottles as they can become lactose intolerant with the pooing. I dropped the night time one and just paced his other bottles. Stopping half way through and letting it settle. If she becomes listless take her to the drs to check her hydration levels otherwise ride it out.

Sick baby here too, viral thing so vomiting, high temps & just wanting to sleep. Doctor said to not even worry too much about the panadol bc he threw it up anyway. We are breastfeeding more often, he doesn't want solids either (threw up after a couple mouthfuls anyway). Doctor said to bring him back if I feel he's not right (regardless of symptoms) as I know him best. Good doctor advice. : )

    I can imagine that's not much fun. : (
I hope your little one gets better really soon, it's bad enough when they're sick but draining (for both of you) when it lingers. Xx
