    Child support?

Ok so exh has been without a job since July last year and I have only been getting $7 a week for all 3 kids since nov.

Now he let me know that he has started a new job... He has said he will contact cs to let them know...

My question is what happens next financial year? Will he seriously only get a payment rate based on this years earnings? (So mainly newstart)
Or will he have to provide a proper estimate?

He is supposed to provide his new income within 14 days and you will get a new child support administrative assessment with the new amount. This will then impact your FTB etc.

And it should be based on his full income right now - not yearly.

    Re: Child support?

he has been back at work for two weeks and is apparently waiting for his paycheck to know what his pay rate is..

and by yearly I mean, next year when they revise the estimate once he has done his tax.. normally my payment goes on what he earnt the year before.. which will be basically nothing.. meaning he will have to pay bugger all child support again while earning a full wage

(and what are you doing on bb while you're meant to be enjoying thailand missy, not that I dont appreciate you taking the time to answer my question xox)

You can also request a new assessment, based on the fact that you know he's now working.
They will contact him & ask for an estimate. Rates will change in accordance to the estimate.
The new tax year shouldn't change anything I don't think, but if they send yet another assessment, I'd just call them up & remind them of the changes.

I'm going to give him wil the end of this week to call them, then I will let them know.

Unfort I have no idea who the job is through so can't really give much more information.

I just want him to start helping. It's been a joke the last year.

    Re: Child support?

When my DD's dad changed jobs I didn't get any child support for 3 months. When I called them they said it takes up to 3 months to get a new collection order in place for their new job.
Also, if you ask for a change of assessment because circumstances has changed, there is a hell of a lot of paperwork to fill in - but it's certainly worth doing in the end if it changed the amount you got.
I'd call them ASAP and enquire about what you would need to do, that way you can get the paperwork and start the process incase you need because it's a long process sometimes!

Oh he pays them... Doesn't have it garnished.

Well he did (until went on newstart because they garnish that I think)

    Re: Child support?

When ex changed jobs to a better rate of pay CSA wouldn't change a thing without my actioning it. They only cared in a decrease in pay rate from his side of things. He was told that he could not put in place an estimate based on increased earnings. I rang to confirm this. So we have been living on a $0 assessment for this financial year waiting for the new tax to trigger a new assessment. I could have asked for a COA to have his income reflected more accurately (I think that's what his other ex did) but I refuse to divulge my information with no protection in place for recourse, so I didn't. Plus this way his not paying the set amount affects nothing, I don't get decreased FTB based on an amount that he isn't going pay anyway.

ETA and yes, I believe unless you challenge the new assessment that will be triggered at tax time, the new assessment will be based on his previous year of little to no work, so a smaller amount than what it would be based on his working for the year. You can challenge that though, not quite sure on the procedure as I never bothered given the above reasons. I've only ever challenged an estimate.

    Re: Child support?

I guess I will have to ring them in the new financial year... Because there is no way in hell I am letting him pay me a measly $7 a week for another year if he is earning a full time wage.

Ring them now! The longer you wait the longer it takes. My change of assessment took about 3 months!
