Dd2 has now been sick on and off since early March. She has had colds and tonsillitis which included a course of antibiotics as she had it for over 10 days with no improvement.
She has now had a cold for 10 days, has had 3 doctor visits and each time they say chest is clear, throat and ears are a little red but just keep up what I'm doing. Dd does not seem to be improving!!! She is so blocked and congested. She is exhausted due to her interrupted sleep as she can't breathe through her nose, when she is awake her nose is like a tap and her breathing sounds like sitting next to a purring kitten! I've had her taking neurofen and Panadol for 10 days, I'm using saline nose drops and sucking out about 3-4 times a day which she hates but I'm getting very decent quantities out only for her to be blocked again within 15 mins. I have Vicks vaporizer going in the bedroom.
She is teething with her first two teeth finally breaking through about 2 weeks ago and she is almost 11 months old so they are late and the dr has said the rest are all sitting waiting to come up, he could feel the sharp tips of them through her gums. The two bottom teeth are still only about 2mm out of the gum, they are not even all the way up. The Panadol and neurofen were causing her to have a sore belly and constipation which I've solved with some coloxyl but she also has a red sore bottom due to #2's which are prob caused by the teething so she is either constipated or getting nappy rash.. Cannot win!
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can possibly help her to get better faster??? It's terrible seeing her like this and it not getting any better.
Oh hun, how frustrating! Firstly I don't have much advice but when through a similar thing with DS from 5 weeks through to 5 1/2 months, so about 4- 4 1/2 months. He was the same, get a cold and not improve fully, get slightly better and then bam, get smashed back to where he was a week ago. It is so awful to watch them when you don't seem to be able to help them at all.
The only thing on her little side is she does have the ability to mouth breathe being that little bit older but gosh, so hard for you both! The only other thing we added to what you are doing is nice warm steamy showers and let the water beat down on her little back. I don't know if it helped but it I do think it seemed to get some of the mucous out. I also swapped the saline drops for saline nasal spray. Wasn't pretty at first but it wasn't causing distress either IYKWIM.
Now, the teeth. Swapping from DS to my DD, she was the same as your little one too. 10 1/2 months before a tooth popped through and they seemed to take forever to become 'full sized' teeth. Once they started though they just popped up all over the place
Sounds like you guys have had a rough couple of months having said all of this though if things don't seem right and you aren't happy with your GPs answer, keep going until you find someone who will listen. You are her mum and no one knows her better.

Hugs we have just come out of the same and now I can hear more congested breathing tonight over the monitor
Sounds like you are doing all the right stuff.
I've had her waking regularly every 10-15 mins tonight and can just hear how blocked up her nose is or she is coughing. She looses her dummy and is too tired to bother grabbing it. To top it off she has chosen a week ago to also stop wanting to be wrapped so we had a few extra hard nights where she really needed to be wrapped for some comfort but at the same time didn't want her arms restricted so I had to resort to wrapping it just around her body. I've just gotten her up, tried sucking out her nose again but didn't get much, put a wrap around her body as her back felt cool to the touch and she went straight back to sleep. Poor thing just looks constantly exhausted even when she has managed some decent sleeps.. She is a trouper and can still give me a laugh or smile.. Last night she was screaming her lungs out and she put her hand on my mouth so I kissed the palm of her hand and she thought it was the funniest thing ever and was cracking up with her little laugh but still crying as well.. I think she forgot for a second which one she wanted to do most!
She is fine asleep in my arms because I obviously have her upright and her nose drains but then in bed it blocks again. I have her cot elevated on one end so I just got hubby to add another book to each side to raise it a little more but I don't think it'll do much other than make her roll to the bottom of the cot faster.. It's very frustrating..
When my DD was getting cold after cold when she was 1 someone suggested starting her on the kids Inner Health Plus powder daily... and it worked! No more colds! It must have been exactly what her little body needed to fight off sickness. Its worth a try for u guys especially since her immune system wld be struggling after the antibiotics etc. Its so sad when our babies are sick
