Dd2 has had a cough for about a week, the last two days it's gotten worse. Now she rattles and seems to be blocked up, but no visible snot.
I took her to the doctor yesterday and he said she has a virus, probably in her upper respiratory tract because her lungs are clear (phew). Throat and ears are also fine.
She has no fever, is still her happy self (I swear she is the most easy going placid thing!). Problem is when she is sleeping she starts to cough and choke a bit and gets herself upset. I have tried baby Vicks, eucalyptus on tissues and elevated her cradle a little. Is there anything else I can try for her?
To me it sounds like she needs to have a really strong cough to clear it but I assume her little muscles aren't quite strong enough yet?
I second the vaporiser. My dd was chesty for weeks and weeks and it did wonders for her. I ended up with antibiotics though because she got really wheezy and got conjunctivitis too. She is so much happier now
Nice warm steamy showers and a saline nasal spray might help with the blocked up part. Isnt that not quite able to cough hard enough frustrating? I find myself trying to finish their cough With DS I warmed a towel up, put him chest down on my lap with the towel on his back, head down slightly and patted him firmly (not hard obviously) like a bit of massaging 'hand chopping' motion.
Just wanted to add to this thread. A friend of mine uses natural stuff and she gives her 10 month old prospan drops (infant ones). I think you can get the equivalent for adults in a cough syrup. She said it works great
THis one is weird but it works every time my kids get coughs.... Cut an onion in half and put it next to them on a little shelf right next to their bed at night.
Also warm room through the night and chest rub on chest back and front and their feet!
