    Sydney

Hi - we are going to be in Sydney at the end of Aug. We don't want to stay right in Sydney - so can anyone recommend somewhere nice to stay that is no more than 30 mins out of Sydney? Easy access to pub transport would be a bonus.

Also any hotel/ holiday park recommendations? Happy to stay in a cabin. Needs to accommodate 3 Adults, 2 children.

    TIA

Hmm that's a big ask... You won't really get any holiday parks within that distance - if there are any, the tend to be residential, not for holidaymakers. 30 mins public transport would mean North Sydney through to Chatswood, Bondi and nearby beaches, as far out as Strathfield or possibly even Parramatta and maybe as far south as Hurstville.

But public transport isn't fun - if you're coming to see the city, I would recommend staying in the city. Even getting around the city centre is quite exhausting.

    Re: Sydney

The Central Coast might work for you. Public transport is a bit iffy but you could try. By half an hour from Sydney, do you mean the city, or another part of the city? What were you hoping to visit?

Because 30 mins from the city is still within Sydney and just as busy. Lol

Or try the northern beaches - I know some friends have stayed at a great caravan park there and raved about it. Has great kids facilities apparently.

Bit more than 30 mins but there's a great holiday parks in Narrabeen, on the lagoon. You could stay at the hotel in Sydney Olympic Park. Parramatta is 30 minutesish from the city, but very busy and not particularly special - though I might just have that opinion cos I work there :P

    Re: Sydney

When we go to Sydney we always stay in the city itself - in the YHA on the Rocks most often - is then easy to get about, easy to get ferry to Manly, easy to get bus to Bondi etc. - if you want to see Sydney I think staying in the CBD is easiest - but all depends what you want to see. Sydney I find far more difficult to get around than Melbourne - the harbor is so beautiful - but it does make getting from place to place more complicated - but the ferries are a nice adventure.

Thanks for all thr suggestions. Happy to stay on a caravan park, but prob in a cabin. Although we will have tent with us-, this is the end of the trip so thought might go with accom.
I have been to Sydney quite a few times. We have always stayed central so want to try something different. We will have our car with us.

    Re: Sydney

I would check out central or south coast options. Wollongong, Kiama or even Bundeena for camping. Nowhere in Sydney that I'd want to stay in a caravan park.

Lane cove is in a national park so you don't feel like you are in the city but only 10 minutes to the harbour bridge!!
We have also camped at Bendalong Point which is on the south coast it is beautiful too, surf beach on one side of the park and bay beach on the other. They have cabins also.
