Orgran No Egg is an egg replacer that works well in things like pancakes, fritters, etc. That opens up a lot of options for you.
Morning! I need some inspiration for blw breakfasts for my 9 month old. We don't have peanut or egg in the house on account of her sister's allergies. So omlettes, pancakes etc are out. I usually offer-
Toast with avo or almond/cashew butter
Fruit with puffed brown rice
'Stiff' porridge with a touch of yoghurt
That's about it!
Orgran No Egg is an egg replacer that works well in things like pancakes, fritters, etc. That opens up a lot of options for you.
fruit
You could mix it up a bit (e.g. put the yoghurt with the puffed rice). Also you could grind some flaxseed and nuts (if your DD isn't allergic to other nuts), and sprinkle that onto the yogurt / puffed rice combo or even onto fruit which is nice. If you are using natural style yoghurt you could add a small amount of honey as well. You could smush soft fruit like berries onto toast as an alternative to jam, or could try marmite / vegemite. You could make a savoury kind of porridge with soft vegies like pumpkin in it. Or you could grill tomato halves. Of course there is always the traditional double espresso in a sippy cup![]()
Those are great ideas. Thanks! DD1 not allergic to other nuts which is good. Not keen on honey before DD2 turns 1. I make my own raspberry granola slices using rice malt syrup and crumble over DD1's yoghurt (and mine- it's delish!) but not keen on sugar substitutes for DD2 when she is so little even if it is a 'healthy' sweetener like RMS.
Pholi, forgot to say before, I've used flax or chia with water as an egg replacer when baking before, have not tried with pancakes though.
Orgran Buckwheat pancake work ok without the egg in them. Yummy with mashed banana and cinnamon in the mix too.
Oh great will look that up.
Also did some blw exploring on Pinterest and looked through my I Quit Sugar kids cookbook and for anyone else interested in ideas came up with
Toast with ricotta and berries
Savoury muffins or scones with grated vegies (I make these already sans egg and sugars - forgot about those!).
'Shrek' bread - basically bread baked with whatever green veggies you have around, blended or grated in.
Also make chia puddings for DD1 with banana etc but they are a bit hard for DD2 to manage with her hands.
Made chia pudding with coconut cream and a touch of rice malt syrup- it's just like coconut yoghurt.![]()
I make pancakes using wholemeal self raising flour and milk, nothing else. And they work great, you don't even need to put eggBut you can add banana etc.
Also not sure if you already do, but oats are my fave. Simple and quick!
Oh that is good to hear Tasha. Shall try!
What about porridge fingers? I haven't made them but its basically porridge that has set and you can slice it into fingers for your LO to eat.
Good idea!
I made no egg pancakes this morning. Thanks for the tip Tasha they were delish. Also added melted butter and a pinch of bicarb and a tiny bit of vinegar which give pancakes that buttermilky richness (with the milk).
Discovered the yummiest almond pistachio butter so had that on toast with berries this morning. Yummy with sliced Apple too. 👍
My kids eat an endless variety of veggie fritters which you can make using no-egg replacer like normal. Your choice of mashed/grated veggies, grated cheese, tiny bit of cornflour or flour, you can even add rice/noodles/pasta. Then into the pan in oil/butter.
