DD is 18 months old and doesn't have much hair, but the hair she has is about 2 inch long at the back and sides. My problem is it is so fluffy every morning I have to wet it again before we can leave the house. I tried a little bit of coconut oil, but it stayed oily. I am currently using a tiny bit of my own conditioner (it's QV) and it helps a bit. I have also noticed there is only 2 in 1 shampoos for toddlers, not separates.
Is it ok to use my own conditioner? What else could I use?
If that isn't an option a couple of brands do spray in detanglers for babes- Gaia and Milk come to mind. Both fairly natural. Apivita does a kids conditioner. A bit $$ for a kiddie one though IMO. I am sure you could google homemade versions.
How often do you wash it? My suggestion would be don't wash it?
When my boys (DD had thick curly hair from when she was born, so I used to wash hers with gaia products once a week to once a fortnight) were that tiny, I only washed their hair if it had obvious yuck in it (like spaghetti or weetbix!) Otherwise I very rarely actually used shampoo or conditioner to wash it. I would just rinse some water through it.
Ladylove, it is cute, but looks like bed hair! Might try gaia actually.
Mrs Fabuloso, I used to wash it with goat milk soap when she was little and every night. but now I wash it every second day or so. Might try washing less.
Every 2nd day is still a lot. DS2 had very light and fluffy hair and I only shampooed it once a week. The rest of the time, just some water was enough to freshen it up. That seemed to help tame it a bit.
We still rarely wash DDs hair and she'll be 4 in June. We rinse with water but only wash if it's actually dirty, like when she gets her dinner in it, or sand. During swimming term I put conditioner in it on those days.
She had similar hair to what you describe when she was your DDs age, I just gave it a bit of a brush if it was knotty, that was all it needed. It was only really fluffy if I'd washed it, otherwise it was just curly.
