i was admitted to hospital on thursday night with what the doctor diagnosed as Red degeneration of the fibroid. apparently this happens when the fibroid grows suddenly from the pregnancy hormones and outgrows it's own blood supply. it then bleeds into the fibroid until the pressure inside puts pressure to stop the bleeding. it is very painful but of no threat to the baby. it is managed by pain relief and bed rest. i was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and their outcome or if anyone has heard about it.
I haven't heard of it before beckles. I hope you get rest & start feeling better soon! Thank goodness that it isn't harmful to bubs, that must have been really scary.
I've heard of it, only because I had a u/s at 6 weeks and they found I had a fibroid.
Basically exactly as you described it happens due to the blood supply to the fibroid being cut off, and it it is going to happen during pregnancy its usually between 12 - 16 weeks when it will.
