When to buy maternity bras?

I put off buying new bras for almost forever as I was slowly losing some weight. Finally bought a couple of new bras and 2 weeks later bingo a and now at 6w4d they are already tight. There are some great stocktake sales on at the moment so I was thinking about going tomorrow. I know I would need to be fitted again later on but am I crazy for going this early?

I bought my first m/b around ten weeks if I can remember that far back.(3 1/2yrs ago) I also found it comfy to wear crop tops to bed to help with the sore boobs and if I was around home I would wear them then too. I didn't feel like I was 'Harnessed' up all the time.

The more support you get for the bb the more comfy you will be in the long run. (IMO)

If your bras are already feeling tight, go get some maternity bras so you can be comfortable. I found very early on in the pregnancy that my breasts got very irritated if clothing was restrictive, which made the skin itchy. Your breasts will probably expand through the pregnancy, I found I had to buy a second batch of larger maternity bras at six months this time, although one size fit me through both my previous pregnancies.

I would heartily recommend going to a specialist store with a good fitter, it makes a HUGE difference when someone knows how to fit a maternity bra properly.

I was the same, finally got some new bras and then less than a month later found out I was pregnant. Haven't worn them for many weeks. Im currently borrowing a really comfy bra of my sisters and realised I must go and buy some new maternity bras asap. Problem is we're a bit tight on the money, so I may have to lay by. I really need alot of new things (just some nice tops and more trackys maybe some maternity jeans. ) It just all adds up.

I bought my first maternity bra just a few days ago. I'm 16 weeks, but I'm very small busted and although my breasts did get bigger I didn't feel uncomfortable until recently. Now I'm comfy as. I went into a particular store so I could get fitted properly but no one would serve me, so I just went to a department store and fitted myself and I think I did pretty well, but I was quite disappointed about not be fitted by a bra "specialist. Living in the country there is only one shop that I know of that does this.

I think whenever you need to, is the best time to buy a maternity bra, as comfort is of the absolute importance.

I bought maternity bras early one but needed another size later on 2..I went from a 14 B pre pregnancy, to a 16 C, then ended up an 18 DD breastfeeding :shock:

go for comfort I say, but buy something cheap to start with as you may not end up in it!

Problem is I am a 16E to begin with so cheap has never been an option when I buy bras.

Bek I know what you mean - I've always been between a C & D cup, so it isn't cost that is the issue, but getting a good fit is.
I actually ended up going to Bras 'n' things at Chadstone, their Dandenong outlet is closer to me but it is staffed by younger women. There is a middle-aged woman at Chaddy who understands the difference between fitting a normal bra and fitting a maternity bra - she taught me a few things, and this is my third time around. *blush*

I started this pregnancy at a 16C, bought some bras in 18D and just got fitted for 18E - I'm hoping this will last me through the milk coming in, because I still have three months to go before actually having the baby! I could conceivably still go up another size.

i presumed there was a "right" time to do it. Then i became pregnant, and found myself with sore breasts at 8 weeks pregnant. So i went to buy one, feeling embarrassed i needed one so early, purely to stop feeling so sore. The relief was immediate, as soon as i had a maternity bra, my breasts were properly supported, and i stopped feeling sore.

i assumed everyone got bigger breasts as their pregnancy progressed - i was assuming i would have to buy maybe three different sizes throughout the pregnancy. To my surprise, i bought a 12DD at 8 weeks pregnant, and each time i checked with a fitter, at six months preg i still needed a 12DD, and once my milk came in (after baby arrived), although i FELT like Dolly Parton, i still needed my 12DD. It wasn't until about 8 months after my baby arrived, that my bra size changed. So i got a really good wear out of the first lot of mat. bras. After 16 months of wear, i needed new ones anyhoo. Maternity bras on me, got a much bigger workout, than normal bras - constant wearing them, and i had less to rotate, compared to normal bras pre=pregnancy.

I struggled trying to work out my size, in the shops where you fit yourself. I ended up going to a shop where they had a fitter, much better result.

Like the other girls have said, get maternity bras as soon as your normal bras are uncomfy. I second getting professionally fitted too as they are a little different to normal bras (as they are designed to grow with you a bit) and it's not as simple as getting the next size up.

I've had the most success with David Jones and they often have sales now to compete with Myer it seems so you can sometimes snap up a bargain. I'd recommend Lovable bras but I'm not sure of their maximum sizes so you may need to go to a proper lingerie shop. My SIL has E-F cup boobs while BF and she struggled to find anything to fit her at the usual department stores.

Enjoy wearing them when you find some, they're super comfy!
