I was just wondering i have just found out that im 4 weeks pregnant (early days) but i have this fear of m/c in early days... I know that you should stay clear of some foods to prevent m/c...
As i was eating my lunch today i was thinking i might ask the girls about this matter (cause i have no idea)...
On my turkish bread today i had cheese, roast beef (from the deli @ woolworth) and bottled olives....
I was being really careful about the foods I should be avoiding but my FIL (dr) told me to only really avoid deli meats and soft cheeses (ie. mould based cheeses - cheddar/hard cheese and processed cheeses are fine).
I was told to be careful of raw foods(sushi), seafood, soft cheeses, deli meats and salads. Also undercooked meat and don't eat leftovers that are over 24 hours old.
Yes avoid the processed meat. Plus smoked salmon, and soft serve ice cream!!! However, don't worry about what you've already eaten, it's only a very small risk, and what we've done we've done. I had hot dog cravings very early on and only after about 5 did I realise I can't eat the sausage in it! Whoops. I also ate a macca's ice cream (large one with choc sauce) whoops!! No use worrying, it's too late now, just be careful in future xoxoxo
Do you know last night I got my DP to go into Hungry Jacks because I felt like their soft-serve ice-cream...it was only when he bought it back to me and I had it in my hand that I realised that I shouldn't be eating that stuff! He didn't feel like it so we had to throw it out.
*sigh* missing sushi and smoked salmon - the fatty acids in salmon are so good for bubs developing brain but I don't like canned salmon or salmon steaks...
Jillian - the major concern with sushi are the ones made with raw fish. I also got told by a doctor that rice is one of the major causes for really bad food poisoning. Just make sure if you buy sushi you stay away from the ones made from raw fish; or those from a store that isn't specifically a japanese sushi store. (You know, so many takeaways etc are now selling sushi too - rice stored inproperly without the right measurement of rice vinegar or stored at the wrong temperature can breed some nasty bacteria) Just stick to specialist sushi stores.
*L* Everytime I think of sushi I crave either the gorgeous Sesame chicken ones from Garden City or crumbed chicken with avocado ones from the Sushi Train. *sigh*
Is Mozarella a soft cheese? I really really want a fresh homemade pizza but I am unsure about Mozarella.
Also, is seafood ok when cooked.. Lobster and Claims specifically? I am trying to prepare a special dinner for DH's 30th Birthday. Both would be cooked and hot if I make them.
8-[ I ahve had some Chicken & veggie Sushi, as they were not raw fish... Also PreincessT, I have bought Pizza & made homemade Pizza & Pasta & stuff with Mozarella....
I did mention to my OB about foods & he said eat whatever ya like, but not if it's raw or been sitting around for ages, I have eaten platters with cheeses etc....
Jillian,
Rice is one of the biggest causes of Food Poisoning etc, but if you haven't been ill, I cxannot imagine you have anything to worry about, as long as it is freshly coked &/or piping hot...
We also consumed kilos of rice, but DH cooks it at home & we add meat & veggies to it, so it is not likely to cause anything!
Jillian , I have just looked it up & Bacillus Cereus, is it's medical term & id caused by "fried rice that has been cooked and then held at warm temperatures for several hours"
So unless you cook it & then leave it, you will be fine...
