Hernia or belly button popping out?

I have had a shocking cough for a week now, so bad i can't lie down at night to sleep. And i cough so much i voimt. It is asthma related, so i take ventolin, but that is about it.
last night when i coughed a little bit of my belly button (just the top half) popped out. it was a little bit painful to touch, but i pushed on it and the bubble popped back in. Every time i coughed it popped back out. Now if i cough i have to put my finger in belly button to stop it popping out again! ( I know, stop laughing!!!)
Has anyone had an umbilical hernia, is this what it sounds like? Or is it just my belly button popping out as i get bigger? i didn't think it was supposed to be painful?
    Hope someone can help?!

    Hi AngeA

Sounds like its just your belly button starting to pop out. I woke up one morning and discovered my 'innie' had become half an 'outtie' overnight. If you are experiencing pain follow through with your dr to be sure though.

Well i had an u/s today and i do have a hernia! Damn coughing!
Havn't been back to doc yet, but pretty sure there is nothing they can do until after i get this peanut out!
So for now i just put my finger in my belly button when i cough or sneeze to keep the little hernia in! Looks pretty funny!

Has anyone else got one? Is it painful? What did your doc say?

Ange, I was going to say it definately sounds like a hernia. My girlfriend had one during her second prg (her second twin prg i should add) and that's exactly what hers was like, very painful to touch.

She's had her babies now and i'm not sure that anything more has been done about it, but I've seen her belly and it looks like it's popped back in after the birth so probably nothing needs to be done about it now. She won't be having any more babies (hello, she has 4 under 3!) but if she were I'd say it would probably pop back out again.
