Ok by posting this im sure im probably jinxing myself but im starting to worry that Hendrix sleeps to much.
He is 5 weeks old and currently will sleep most of the day and night. In the morning he wakes for about 2 hours and again 2 hours in the evening but otherwise he pretty much sleeps constantly during the day ( i just tried to wake him for a feed and he went back to sleep on the boob). At night he will wake at 1am for a feed but generally is awake for 20mins to an hour and is asleep again and this is the same for the 4 or 5am feed.
I am obviously loving this but when i read that a lot of bubs around the same age are spending most of the day awake i worry.
Hmmm... there seems to be a lot of sleepy babies at the moment
Have you tried undressing him when you wake him to feed him? It will help him to wake up properly. Like I asked Angel, is he having wet nappies? Is he gaining weight?
Yes he is having lots of wet nappies and is gaining heaps and heaps of weight. 1.4kg since birth (5 weeks). I have tried to undress him and he wakes a little but will fall asleep again quite quickly.
a while ago probably oct or nov last year i did a post on the recommended sleep and up times for babies from birth to 12mths - i will look later for the post when i pop on tonight.
from memory they say they should be up i think max 1hr or 1 1/2hrs at hendrix age - this includes feeding and changing.
i found the post i was talking about so i have copied and pasted it:
hi thought some might find this info useful which i got from my maternal child health nurse - it works wonders for us. just bear in mind all babies are different and it is just general. also it is important to look out for those tired signs before too late - grizzling, jerky movements, fist clenching etc

Mackenzie was a sleepy baby (but not as much as your bubs!) Remember they are growing a lot at this stage and they do it in their sleep time. Go with your gut feeling and if you are not happy get him checked out by your GP or MHC nurse.
