It depends what they are doing, all day its 18-20/hr, I think thats what nanny rates would be.
We are looking to get someone to watch Milo for a few hours when we got out for dinner in a few weeks, he will already be in bed, so unless something happens all they need to do is be there, and thats $12-15/hr
Its for me to baby sit all day, I want to make some money to buy a car/van and the only way is if I too work, but this way I can do it form home and my mum will help and my daughter .
I am willing to baby sit at least 2 to 3 kids, only one baby and the other 2 would have to be 2 and up. I have two cots, a double pram, yadda yadda.
But I want it cash in hand, no cheques, not sure if people would be happy with that, or if that is allowed even these days. But thats the way I want it.
I would have all meals provided, activies set for the day, nap time, oh iyt would be so much fun. Hard work, but I kow about that already!
Is there much call for it these days?
Thank you so much for this help, you have no idea how much I appreciate it. I dont want to advertise till I have al the answers.
My FDC lady gets paid $6.80 per hour and 80c goes to the organisation running the FDC, if I leave Riley with her on the quiet if she has room on an extra day I just pay $6 an hour cash in hand to her.I provide all his food and nappies etc. Jess gets $8 an hour babysitting but I know some of her friends are charging $10 and for an adult you can charge more.
My gf paid her babysitter cash $60/day she was going to pay $70 but the babysitter refused, based on the fact that if she were to pay an official registered babysitter she would be able to get a rebate from the govt. So this is something to think about as if you are accepting cash you don't want to overcharge as thats not really fair iykwim?
Soul have a look at family day care requirements and see what exactly is required. I looked into it years ago and the information is really helpful. Gives you guidelines of how many children can be in the home alongside your own children, safety guidelines, like safety glass etc. I care for two children overnight for weekends occassionally and get paid in excess of $100 for that but honestly would do it for nothing cos i love them to bits and its nice for Sammy. I havent seen rates quite as high as $18. I have a girlfriend who was actually a nanny in the UK and here she was just charging $10 an hour, given that it was cash in hand. Goodluck
Cailin makes a good point, I get a rebate from the govt so I don't actually pay the full amount and I have the peace of mind that Riley is with a registered carer who has inspections done on her etc. Not saying you wouldn't be great but you see some horror stories about unregistered carers on current affairs shows so people will be naturally wary. If you have people who know you they would probably be fine about the fact that you are unregistered and cash in hand.
I hope I don't sound too negative i just want you to know things which would be useful in this situation.
A good thing to get into may be after school care where you just have the children for a few hours after school. I know parents at our school who have been desperate to get their kids out of formal after school and vacation care at the school and into something more home based.
Well my initial thought was to charge $7 per hour, I mean its alot of work, and very time consuming. I am not going to be a martye and sell myself short in the process, as that is time that could be spent with my own children, but I need to make some money and want to do it from home and loving kids comes naturally for me. I am not making a big fuss of it and its not going to become a career lmao. So it will be cash in hand for a few days a week and if they dont like that then they find someone else.
Once anyone walks into my home and see's how spotless and clean it is and how polite and well mannered my children are towards others, they will know I am not a person to worry about, and if they dont see this and are snobby about something then that is there loss not myn, I am proud of who we are. My house is safe protected as we have our own kids too.
I am only planning to do this for a few months, not to make a career out of it for a long term.
mrsmac After school care is my other thought.
Cailin, I totally agree with you, and greed is definatley not my name!! lol. I think I would not go more than $7 per hour, as I would feel too guilty if only doing it cash in hand. Your absolutley right sweetie.
I am hoping it gets aorund by word of mouth. I would not mind more than 2 to 3 kids as I know my limits of what I could manage to my full potential and then going beyond my means and children not getitng my "All" does that make sense?
Anwyay, I dint take offense to anyone, your all been so wondeful even replying.
Niass I am looking at minding one baby and one child near school age, doubt that will be illegal not that anyone will know. It could be a freinds child/dren yet, depends if word of mouth spreads enough for me. Governemnt doesn't like us wiping our backsides without them knowing either, dont mean I am going to share that with them too, lol. If I can get to mind a child from soneone that child goes to my daughters school then I dont think I need go tell the governemt I am doing it, they know enough of my business already. To mind a child for four or five hours a day, should not havr to be pulled apart by men in suits wether they are panicked they are not going to get there little hands on something out of it.
It sounds really good Soul, especially if you just want to do it a couple of days to get extra cash. Why not advertise in the school newsletter? Often mums who work short days can't get childcare as most FDC insist on 8 hours minimum, same with day care centres so to get someone who doesn't mind only 4 or 5 hours would be a lifesaver for them.
christine sweetie your a brain!!!! That is a fab idea, and makes me feel better knowing there are people that need people like me! Thank you so miuch, I think I will give that a go, so how much would you charge?
Thats a great idea Christine, also Soul, Ive noticed when people advertise here they will often say that they have their senior first aid and working with children clearance/police clearance so might be something to consider too just for reassurance.
Jo you mean for reasurance for the other party not me right? Since it would be me being checked out like a sniffer dog lol. I have no problem with them if they want to check me out, I have no records, or debts, or any other ill things. I dont have any certificates in lookng after children, when I had my kids there wasnt any books on "How to raise your child" lmao. I am just a mother, a damn good one, lol, so they will have to trust with there own instict on who they think I am. I dont have any records of being abusive, a pheadaphile, rapist, kidnapper yadda yadda. So if they think a police record is not good enough, thats up to them I guess, I can get heaps of character references, from ladies at play group, my girls school, my friends from when I was running meditation classes a year ago. I just dont have any certificates in child care or psychology lol.
If they are going to be fuddy duddys I dont want them because they will make me paranoid to touch there child incase of making a huge deal out of it, kwim.
But I know the right kids will be sent to me if this is what I am suposed to be doing.
LOL course for the other party!!!! I think you would do a fabulous job! I just know how strict it all seems now! I know when my dds are doing sport and activities and such I like to know they have gone through the usual checks in caring for children. When we got our fostercare license I couldnt believe just how much paperwork was involved but it just seems to be the way of the world now..sigh.
I am going to look into foster care when my kids have all grown up, I think its wonderful, but I am selfish, I want to enjoy my kids fully now so I havent put anyone ahead of them, kwim? But even then when they are all grown and off I want to start up a Reiki clinic from my meditation room, so that will be my time. Wish we could live more lives all at once, I have too many things I want to do and not enough bodies and time!
If you are going to want to get paid cash in hand you MUST make sure you have a fair price. Just remember that people can have their LO's looked after at a FDC for around $5 an hour.
My son is with his babysitter for a full day (approx 8am to 5/6pm) and I give her $50 per day and send him with his own food. She has his formula and spare clothes and his cot etc all there ready for him. She has her own LO's too so she suggested $50 a day. When I work full time, I will start giving her $55.
Just make sure you have a fair price and experience/qualifications/certificates etc and people will be happy to pay cash!
