    lava stone?

Wondering if anyone has seen somewhere online preferably, to buy a lava stone to cook on (at least that is what I think it is called?)

DH had dinner with some friends a few months ago and he said they cooked dinner at the table with some sort of a lava stone that you heat up in the oven then take to the table to cook finely sliced meats. he thinks it had something with it to keep the heat in it, like a gas cartridge or something?

Anyone know what my DH is talking about or seen one?

Lavastone Grill plate is what they are called, but I can't seem to find them here in aus. Found one called Hot Wok at amazon in the Uk. There is also a restaurant in Perth (which I may have to visit on my next trip LOL)... will keep looking though...

Thanks Cailin, will go searching for the lavastone grill plate I had a look awhile ago, and all I could find was restaurants who cooked meals on them and some company who does them for parties.

I haven't had a look myself yet but I have also heard them called "hot stones" so it could be worth a try to google that. I'll have to look myself when I get a chance, DH would love that as a pressie.

The "freestanding" domestic ones are hard to get in Australia, but you may be able to find one in a larger Asian grocer (korean or japenese?)

Domesic ones usually go by the name of a stone BBQ grill which you heat in the oven

In Australia, Raclette may stock a fancy version which is a full tabletop grill with a stone half: brilliant for fondue/entertaining.....but that would be electric rather than gas......(maybe google it and see what you think?)

    HTH.......

thanks for all the info girls
Lucy, I checked out the Raclette, and I don't think that is what he was after, though I am yet to show DH, and he may change his mind when he sees them.
Will sit down in the next week or so and check over some of the info given here with DH.
