    PCOS, -ve pregnancy test, 5 days late with AF...

    Hi everyone,

    I was diagnosed with PCOS a year ago (possibly PCO, & not the full syndrome), I went on the pill for 3 months (to stop the mid-cycle bleeding) and have been TTC for 7 months.
    My cycle is usually around 30-31 days.
    AF was due 5 days ago (on a 31 day cycle)... still no sign of her, however, I have had bad period pain (like the pain I get when I usually start my period) for almost a week.
    Because my breasts were tender, etc I took a pregnancy test this morning (Pregnosis).
    DH and I were so upset when it came back negative.

    I still haven't got my period, and there isn't even spotting, which I usually get for a couple of days before my period!

    I have a couple of questions:
    1. What are my chances of the pregnancy test being wrong?;
    2. Is period pain normal at the beginning of pregnancy?;
    3. Is it irrational of me to consider going to see a fertility specialist (my current gyno is also a FS) seeing as though i've only been TTC for 7 months and there are women out there who've been trying for much longer?

    I just needed to vent a little I suppose because I feel so silly talking about it to my close friends and my sister because all they keep saying is "it will happen, just be patient" but I just can't be patient because I have this fear that it won't happen... it really scares me.

    Thanks for listening.

    HI there can relate to how your feeling, everyone who has children or is pregnant are great at saying it will happen eventually and just relax, but it's not them having the trouble getting preg's or feeling the way you do. you could try another preg test in a few days and see how you go? would love to hear your news whether it's pos or neg. i'm not sure about the period pain? you could always ask your gyno and see what they have to say about it. if your really unsure i would call gyno and ask them what they think is going on they might even arrange and ultrasound to have a look.

    Bek, I don't know the answers to your questions, but big hugs to you. I hope that you are pg. If not, I think you should see a FS whenever you feel ready. It doesn't matter what your family think, you have to do what is right for you. GL.

    I had cramping like I get around AF time about a week after my AF would've been due with this pregnancy, however I did test positive on day 24 of my cycle (O'd on day 12). Do you know when you O'd? Some ladies don't test positive until a week after AF was due and perhaps you O'd a little later than normal. Leave it a few days and retest.

    I personally wouldn't recommend seeking treatment yet 7 months is a relatively short time when you are talking TTC. My first pregnancy took 3 years to achieve (and that was after seeing a FS), my second took 9 months, 3rd about 4 months and 3 months for this one. The last 3 were all without any assistance at all. After my 2nd m/c I was told I needed IVF to help sustain a pregnancy to 12 weeks (also due to age) but I will be 16 weeks tomorrow so it looks like the FS was wrong.
