Worming the family....but not me

I just recently wormed my family but im unable to worm myself because i am breastfeeding. Does anyone know the reason for this. Obviously the wormer goes through the milk but i wouldnt of thought that was such a bad thing.
Also for those that worm their familys, how often do you do it. It doesnt actually recommend when to redo so that info also would be appreciated.

I worm my husband and I on a yearly basis (this is recommended by the brand we use), much to my husband's disgust. We have two dogs and I understand that people with pets are more likely to get worms. I know you can't be wormed while pregnant but I don't know about breastfeeding.

Does anyone know how old a child must be before you are able to worm them?

The brand i used says from the age of 2.

Gee i wouldnt of thought yearly would of been enough. We have chooks, dogs, a cat, puppies and a horse. All of them get done at the same time, except the puppies of course. So maybe i should do us every three months as well.

I think i may have to google this subject to find out more info.

I recently had to worm my family too.

I was told by the pharmacist that breastfeeding women should not take any worming medication as it is too harsh for little bubba's, even though they would probably only get a small amount. It's just not worth the risk.

I was also told that although the packet says for adults and children to be wormed together, in about 90% of cases it is only the children who would actually have the worms so the chance of you being infected isn't that high anyway. Not sure if this is true or not but it's just what I was told by the pharmacist.

Also - the worms that people have are totally different from the worms that animals have. If you have worms the same time as your pet - it is purely conincidental. It would not be the same type of worms. But good practice to worm all living things at the same time anyway

Some roundworms are zoonotic, so you could get them from cats easily enough. But it usually has to do with cats getting into sand pits & even though you pick up the poo, the eggs stay in the sand undetected until a child gets to them.

But most worms kids get are threadworms/pinworms. I use a wormer which is for 12 months and up, and because Jovie is over 12 months I didn't worry about breastfeeding her while taking the worming. She was the one with worms anyway, so needed it. I had to redo them at 4 weeks because of the level of infestation on Jovie. At the same time I washed all bedding & clothes in hot water & hung in the sun to get rid of worm eggs & now 6 weeks on it looks like I didn't do a good enough job because Jovie has worms again .

I actually took a worm to work to find out which sort we had, and it was a threadworm.

Hi, I'm also unable to worm myself due to being pregnant. I worm my family every 2 to 3months unless a complaint is made earlier then I worm straight away and repeat after a week. I have pets at home that in contact with my kids and they are all wormed monthly as well. I was told to increase the garlic intake in my diet as it acts as a natural remedy to repel worms, although I don't think I've ever had them. I don't think there are any products on the market for use while breastfeeding, and young children can't be treated until they reach the age of two, if you suspect before this age you need to consult a doctor.

We worm every 3 months and at the same time do all the animals because it is easier to remember that way

At the same time I wash all the bedding and towels and make sure that the clothes washing is up to date.

Very interesting people, thanks for the replies.
Thankfully none of us have had worms ( well not that im aware of any how) its just the fact that we have so many animals and we all handle them that i thought it a good idea to start again. Im disappointed that i cant do myself only for peace of mind but if everyone around me is done then myself and DD should be pretty right. Even though i know you cant eradicate (s) every worm as they have different life cycles its better than not at all.
