IVF costs

Dh and I went to our first FS appointment at monash this week and he told us we have to have IVF.
We've been ttc for 16 months and DH has a low sperm count.
We have a homeloan and a few bills to pay and have no private health cover and our recent savings have just been spent on a car.
the initial appoint cost us $200, and dh has a few more tests planned for next week then another follow up appoint in a months time that involes an exam for me and internal us and more $.
I know IVF is costly, so whats the procedure with the costs involved.
will he tell us what we will need done and then we can go home and save or do we have to bring it up that we don't have the money to start yet.
we we're on track money wise after buying a house, then this popped up. i feel so jealous when everyone around me is falling pregnant for free.
I know i may come across sounding angry, i'm not, it's just we don't have the money sitting in the bank, and are trying our hardest to save for it. but like my friend said surely not all ivf couples are rich.
anyway we don't know anyone else going through this so was hoping for some advice. (i'm sure i'll need more advice as we get into it all )
