Possible Gestational Diabetes !!! arghhhh
First and foremost... YAY i'm in the third trimester
I had a GTT test done on the 16th june and it came back with a reading of 9.1 I received a letter from the Royal Woman's in Melbourne to have a follow up test tomorrow (thursday 26th). This is fine, but i live 4 and a half hours away !!!
I have been desperatly trying to get in contact with the midwife for the past 2 days, and getting through has been near impossible. They have moved to their new hospital and i realise everything would be all new, but wow, what a nightmare.
I have looked up the symptom's of gestational diabetes and i do have alot of the symptoms. Is there anyone other mother to be that has it that could offer some advice ? like diet ? and control ?
Sorry to hear about your GTT results coming back high. What a distance to travel for the follow up test. Wow.
I don't really have any advice or anything, I'm sorry.
I do know that if you do get a high result this time, they'll give you all the information you need to know about diet and control aswell as give you a time frame to see if you can control it with diet and not have to go on insulin.
There is a Gestational diabetes section to post in and we all are there for support and to encourage each other as best we can.
Good luck with the next test.
I hope it comes back fine.
It has been said that gestational diabetes is a diagnosis in search of a disease. It is a largely inconsequential diagnosis which can vary depending on when you take the test - if you had the test done either a week earlier or later than you did you could have gotten a completely different result - even what you ate in the days previous to the test could have altered your result. Henci Goer has written some great stuff about the myth that is Gestational Diabetes - there is an article here https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...enci-goer.html that you should read, it really puts it into perspective. That said there are women who genuinely do have diabetic-type problems during pg, but you do feel sick from it. Merely having a high Blood Sugar Level doesn't constitute a lot of the broo-haa-haa that goes with it.

Finding out the news of possible GT really shook me up though, as i have also been told i am "going to get pre-clampsia" again with this pregnancy. And the thought of having these two problems together really frightened me.
In my second trimester i posted a thread in regards to being told about getting the pre-clampsia again. I had it when i was pregnant with my first son (11 years ago lol).
Does anyone know if it is possible to get both of these complication together ???
Thankyou for the replies i have received so far
I managed to get an appointed to get my GTT done at a hospital that is much closer to me than melbourne which is great (got it with my care share doctor). I am scheduled to have the GTT test done tomorrow morning.
3 days of trying to get through to the person i needed to speak to at Melbourne Royal Woman's hospital was impossible. It actually had me in tears in the end as i was getting shoved from one department to another with no one able to help me, it was extremely frustrating. But i know they have just moved into the new hospital and everything is still up in arms. So needless to say i didn't turn up for my GTT test there this morning and couldn't get through to my team to explain the reason and inform of my appointment at this other hospital to have the GTT test done.
With my pregnancy with DS.. i had preclamsia and i had gestaional diaebetes... was is hard.... not really.. i got PE at about 35 weeks and had Gdiabetes at 30 weeks..
Its not the end of the world just a HUGe chance of having a c-sec...
My advise to you is to get out walking... everyday for at laest 30 min... wear support stockings( i swear by these now with this pregnancy)
Drink at least 2L of water a day.... and stay away from any foods that are bad for you AT ALL.. every little bit helps..
I have totally changed my diet aroudn this time and there is no sign of either.. CONFIRMED.. so far...
